Beautiful instrument and good fortune smile upon thee! I never thought tot take up the mandolin, although considered harpsichord and dulcimer...ended up sticking to the trusty recorder, which I love with a passion somewhat akin to your own. Perhaps I'll blog about my RAS sometime!

Kindred spirits! I played the recorder as a child and in those days I was too young to know about RAS!
Later took up the dulcimer, my parents bought me a lovely one in Appalachia from a renowned maker. (Still have it but would need to be re-strung for playing. Currently it hangs on the wall as a decorative object!)
Had years of piano lessons--years and years ago--and always longed to play the harpsichord.
Hope you do blog your RAS, I'll be watching!

I love mandolin music! Lots of bluegrass musicians where I live -- just yesterday we stopped at a rinky-dink carnival in a tiny town and listened to a family bluegrass band. My sister said, "Are there just, like, a MILLION bluegrass bands in the world?" Around here it sure seems that way. Have fun!!

I am having fun! And yes, probably there are a million bluegrass bands! I learn a lot from listening and I've learned a little (my teacher plays bluegrass) but it's not my preferred style of playing. I lean towards more traditional music (mix of old English, Celtic, Quebecois fiddle and dance tunes). That's one reason I decided on this particular instrument.
