Husband used to work for Bonas machines in the UK., they make narrow gauge fabric looms, but the boss used to have a sideline making semi-automatic diamond polishing machines called Piermatic machines. He told me about the level of security they had to deal with on a daily basis. checking in and checking out and counting the diamonds daily. One day they were one diamond short and no one was leaving until it had been found. Turned out to be in someone's pant leg cuff.
Ok, now I am horribly jealous of the moules frite AND the framboise as it is my very favourite Belgian beer. Have I ever told you about the cookbook called Everybody Eats Well in Belgium? Worth every penny and a whole chapter devoted to cooking with beer.

What a fantastic diamond story! I can well imagine the counting that must go on at the end of a day's work, in every "facet" of the diamond trade.
Everybody does eat well in Belgium and I'll have to hunt it down when I'm Stateside. So far I've had Flemish beef stew made with Kriek beer and yesterday's moules were cooked in De Konick, the local brew. Both meals excellent.
I got turned onto Framboise during a Brussels trip. Even though I can buy it at Hannaford (and make stocking-up trips to SAQ in Quebec, where it's cheaper, I still get excited about it when I'm here!

FAbulous photos yet again. I've never been to Antwerp but it is certainly on my 'to do' list now.

I meant to say that next Thursday in London, if you view a slightly overawed obvious northener that'll be me! Lets hope it doesn't rain.

Marzipan ghosties and framboise biere - what a combination! I am completely jealous but also grateful for the delightful armchair travel you've just given me in the middle of a rather grey Montreal afternoon. Enjoy every bit of it (and it's as good a time as any to say we're sorry we missed your anniversary - but a toast from us to many more happy years of marriage!)

Lovely pictures. I will be traveling to Belgium in May and Antwerp will be one of our destinations. You have provided a nice insight into the town.
