Sure, let's play the name game. You call the candidates in opposition to Mike Mc Entee "left wing" which makes me think that McEntee and his supporters (like you) are "right wing."

The impression you leave to many who read your blog is that you do not support public education (reminds me of those conservatives that wanted to eliminate the Dept. of Education), support vouchers, oppose the right of the judiciary to serve as an independent branch of the government, don't believe NM should receive the amount of federal funding it receives (is that being against state rights?), support privatization of government services. etc. . . Those views are out of the mainstream and could place you on the far right.

I would put you in the group of elitist, selfish conservatives that believes in an "every man for them self" society that can never put the interests of the community, or their neighbors in line with or above their own. That's why you live on the "top of a mountain" to get away from normal people and don't have to interact with the rest of society. Think about it.

If you don't like the "name game" stop playing it. You can't expect to write about politics and expect people to not form an impression of your philosophy. Deal with it.

Damn, jim, and you had to go ruin it for me! I was about to call Mario a "pontificating Moses on a mountain of conservative slime that stinks bad enough to scare the maggots off Teddy Roosevelt". But now that seems so trite, doesn't it?

Have fun, guys.

Lighten up Little Jimmy. And they say conservatives have no sense of humor.

But as long as your going to take this so seriously, I guess I should reply point-by-point:
The impression you leave to many who read your blog...
How cool! I'm impressing many people.
...you do not support public education...
Absolutely support public education. My kids attend public school. I have been a volunteer in public schools for the last six years, and will probably continue until the day I die. What I don't support is poor public education, or irresponsible beuracrats.
...reminds me of those conservatives that wanted to eliminate the Dept. of Education...
Like I said, I'm not a fan of irresponsible beuracrats. The quality of the teacher in the classroom is a heck of a lot more important than spending money on PR campaigns (subscription). Whose lamebrain idea was it to spend precious resources on "conversations?" Seriously folks, how could anyone who cares not know our kids are failing?
...support vouchers...
You got me there. If I wanted to send my kids to private school, I could. I believe those less fortunate than me should have the same school choice options. I'm sure in your mind that somehow makes me an elitist.
...oppose the right of the judiciary to serve as an independent branch of the government...
Actually, a non-partisan, independent judiciary that doesn't mistake themsleves for a legislative body would be really nice for a change.
...don't believe NM should receive the amount of federal funding it receives...
No, I don't.
...is that being against state rights?
Not following your logic.
...support privatization of government services...
You betcha!
Those views are out of the mainstream and could place you on the far right.
If you're talking about a statistical mainstream, I do believe you are wrong. I'm not foolish enough to think my views represent the exact middle, but I'm pretty sure you would find me within the middle part of a bell curve measuring a range of beliefs.
I would put you in the group of elitist, selfish conservatives that believes in an "every man for them self" society that can never put the interests of the community, or their neighbors in line with or above their own.
Boy are you off base. The exact opposite is true. I believe that the individual is responsible for giving back to their community. You can't create community caring and responsibility through taxation and larger government. In fact, the exact opposite happens.

Gravatar PART II

That's why you live on the "top of a mountain" to get away from normal people and don't have to interact with the rest of society.
Wrong again. I live in a semi-rural community, so I can have meaningful interaction with the rest of society. I can go into a hardware store and meet my neighbors. I can volunteer to help with a Santa breakfast for the kids in my community. I can throw a holiday party and invite my neighbors because everyone has a good time. Most importantly, we can raise our children in an atmosphere where it is considered normal to wave at the occupants of every car that passes you on the street.
Think about it. If you don't like the "name game" stop playing it. You can't expect to write about politics and expect people to not form an impression of your philosophy. Deal with it.

Never said I didn't like the name game. As a matter of fact, I believe I encouraged you to bring it on. I'm dealing with it very well thank you. I'm not sure I can say the same about you. Now, Pika on the other hand, she understands the game. Thanks for the chuckle!

Gravatar I'm a fan, so to defend all of us whom you call 'Pinko liberal tree-hugging hippies!' and that sort... I'm a college student at Colorado College, but I can say college-slang, the colloquialized version of 'radical conservative local blogger' is 'crack-pot blogger.' Much like Tom Coburn is a 'crack-pot Senator.' It's a very versitle cliche. And you, Mario...

Gravatar Hey Mario...

I'll play!

How about this one:
Mario Burgos, an extreme, mean-spirited, uncompassionate right-wing gun-nut, flag-waver blogger from the East Mountains.

Larry Ahrens
106.3 KAGM
Albuquerque

Gravatar Now everyone's getting the idea, and I'm learning new college slang. How times have changed. When I was in college, a "crack pot" was usually found on a Washington Square Park bench set down by a man shouting out, "smoke, dope" to passing NYU students. Ten dollars later, freshman would walk away with some high grade oregano.

Larry good try, but Pika is still the reigning queen of prose.

Gotta run. I have to kick the dog, step on the downtrodden, bring in my flag, oil my gun and then get someone to "let my people go."
