Gravatar I find it more than a little hilarious that someone from a Party that was built in the decades since the civil rights movement on bigotry, namecalling, dirty tricks, executive privilege, lies, hate speech and labeling anyone who's not supporting every policy they push an "elite" or "unpatriotic" or "sinful" would be complaining about Dean's tame remarks.

It is evident to anyone who cares to honestly look that the Republican Party is using the extreme right-wing, white fundamentalist Christian hatred of anyone who thinks beyond ancient scripture or uses the scientific method to bolster their coffers and their voter turnout. Oh how awful for the Democratic Chairman to notice and say it aloud.

Gravatar As a hispanic republican, i find Howard Dean's remark humorous. As long as they try to articulate the republican party as the white only party the more they offend the non-white republican's which there are a lot of. Good luck on the D's pulling those folks into their party.

Gravatar Always trying to stir-up trouble, Mario!

Gravatar Well despite John Chavez and small numbers of others in the Repub Party being minority members, the fact remains that today's Republican Party grew most of its numbers over the past decades from those who couldn't stand that the Democrats pushed through civil rights laws. How else would you explain Nixon's Southern Strategy? It certainly wasn't based on bringing minorities into the fold.

Of course there are minority members in the Republican Party, as well as some gay people as well. These are the exceptions to the rule in my opinion. It just that some pay hate paying their taxes enough to join the Party that has resulted in their repression for many, many years. Go figure.

Gravatar i am glad that Barb acknowlegdes the republican party has minority members. I noticed that she has not identified whether she is a minority or not. One of the reasons minoritys go to the republican party is the attitute that we(minorities's)are unable to think for ourselves and that some greater payer(the democratic party) can make better decisions for us as individuals or better decisions for us as a minority group.

Gravatar Actually, since the Democratic Party has alot more minority members in its ranks than the Republican Party, minorities have a bigger voice in what the Party does. This hardly qualifies as the Party telling minorities how to think. It entails members of the Party telling the Party what positions to take. Of course there is always room for alot of improvement in this regard within the Dem Party. That's what people are working on these days.
