Yeah, well try tallying it from when the real action started in the 60s. As we all know, Southern Dems were often against civil rights back in the 30s and 40s. These are the same kinds of Southern strategy folks who switched parties once Johnson got serious with civil voting rights and more.
Can you really insist that the Republican Party in modern times has been FOR civil rights for all? As I said, the modern Republican Party was built on bigotry to a great extent, with the always popular "we lower taxes" bait thrown in.

Barb to say the civil rights movement began in the 1960's is naive to say the very least. To credit Democrats for the civil rights movement is absurd. But the topper is to pretend the racist Democrats became Republicans.
In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was filibustered for 14 hours by Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) a former Ku Klux Klansman, and a current US Senator (still a D-WV).
I didn't say the civil rights movement started in the 60s. I said the major modern-day action started in the late 50s and 60s in terms of important legislation.
The day that Republican owns up to the reasons for and strategies employed starting with Nixon's Southern Strategy will be the day we know the revolution is being televised.
