Gravatar And how many funerals of those killed while serving in Iraq has President Bush attended?

Gravatar Your post rekindled the gratitude and disappointment I felt last Friday, November 5, 2005 at the Capitol Rotunda. The Wall of Honor was dedicated to New Mexico's Medal of Honor Recipients. We were privileged to have two of our three living Medal of Honor Recipients attend, along with many of the family members of the other nine Medal of Honor Recipients. Family members traveled from as far away as Hawaii to participate and honor their loved one. Yet, the Governor's book had just been released and it was more important to be in New York for interviews and book signings than it was to be in the Capitol to honor these individuals and to greet them personally. In other words, the chief elected representative of the people of New Mexico was not there to offer the State of New Mexico's thanks in person. Scheduling surely could have been managed as this ceremony had been on my calendar for at least six weeks. I appreciated the Lt. Governor filling in -- but that is not the same as the highest elected official acknowledging the highest of honors.

Last, it was a privilege to hear each of the citations read aloud and to hear taps echo through the Capitol. New Mexico’s Medal of Honor Recipients are:

1st Lt. Alexander Bonnyman, Jr. – WWII
St. Sgt. Drew Dennis Dix – Vietnam
Sp. 4th Class Daniel Fernandez – Vietnam
Private Joseph P. Martinez – WWII
St. Sgt. Franklin D. Miller – Vietnam
Cp. Hiroshi H. Miyamura – Korea
Private Harold H. Moon, Jr. – WWII
2nd Lt. Raymond G “Jerry” Murphy – Korea
WO Louis Richard Rocco – Vietnam
Private 1st Class Alejandro Renteria Ruiz – WWII
Capt. Robert S. Scott – WWII
Private 1st Class Jose F. Valdez -- WWII

Gravatar Gov. Richardson has been a NO SHOW and RUNNER since he was elected Gov. of New Mexico. Richardson is a Opportunistic EgoCentric who could careless of New Mexicans and their Needs. Yes, Richardson is the Commander in Chief of our Outstanding New Mexico National Guard and he should of been at Sgt. Wesbrooks Funeral. Gov. Richardson has no idea what war is like. Richardson had an opportunity to service in our Military, but he and Cheney had other things to do. Shame On You Gov. Richardson. Eli Chavez, Combat Vet., U.S. Army Special Forces and 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper.

Gravatar I'm not from New Mexico, so I won't get involved in arguing with you about how Richardson has managed (or mismanaged) the state.

However, if you've studied politics, you know that policy ALWAYS speaks louder than personal actions. If personal actions trumped policy, then ALL politicians would be evil.

I don't understand why people would vote for a person to run a country because he would be a fun person to have a beer with, or pretends to live on a ranch (even when there's no cattle, so by definition it's not a ranch), or uses a phony southern accent.

Policy makes the difference at the end of the day. It ALWAYS has. So when people on one side complain about someone having an immoral affair with an intern, at the end of the day it impacted less people than the Iraq war has..

Policy counts, ALWAYS, otherwise people would hire priests to run this country (oops, actually, that's kind of what the Dobson-Robertson-Coburn-Santorum extremists want).

Gravatar Todd: I totally agree with you. Richardson, Bush and the Neo-Cons all swim in the Same Cess Pool.
