Gravatar Question:
If a spaceport is such a profitable venture, why isn't the private sector building one?
Mike

Gravatar "If it only costs $225 million to get to space, why on earth does it cost $393 million to get from Belen to Bernalillo?"

Because so far capitalists have been unable to charge right-of-way fees to travel through the atmosphere.

Give them time.

Gravatar With the recent Supreme Court ruling, I don't see why the State doesn't save a ton of money by claiming eminent domain for economic reasons. I'm not at all for it really, but if it saves the taxpayers $100 million, why not?

Realistically, the "train to nowhere" has got to be Richardson's dumbest and least thought out idea to date. Without the infrastructure in these communities (i.e. parking in Albuquerque, cab service in Bernalillo, Santa Fe etc.) one has to wonder why we would put the train before the most important areas of the proposal.

Gravatar You're certainly right about the uncertainty surrounding the costs of the train to nowhere. See my article on the Rio Grande Foundation website, http://riograndefoundation.org/ p...7a5c5859dac472c

Gravatar Why is our's 225 million and Florida's only 55 million

Gravatar The difference is the Governor's commission.

Gravatar Robert Rhodes:
Where did you hear of the 55 million dollar figure to build a Spaceport in Florida?
I would like to send the information to my Representative.
Thanks, Mike

Gravatar I think Mr. Rhodes may have caught wind of the extra $55 million being requested in the Florida State Legislature to expand on their current capacities already available. The LA Times covered the story here:
