Hey, a little late, isn't she? She's gone along with Bush on this stuff for a long time now. Perhaps her sudden awakening has something to do with the new poll results that put her in a dead heat with Patsy Madrid in the CD1 race? Naw, that can't be it...

Heather has always been her own person regarding the issues. To say that she toes the Republican line is nonsense. She has ticked off the conservative base a number of times but the conservative base always comes back to her at election time because they realize have her in Congress is better then having a liberal democrat in congress.

Barb, let's get real here. Our president has not done anything that has not been done more egregiously by previous administrations, which is not to say I agree with it.
What I applaud Congresswoman Wilson for doing is demanding more information. This is not the after the fact effort those in the Madrid camp would like to portray. According to today's Journal, Heather sent letters back in December, and when those proved unfruitful, she chose to kick it up a notch - in spite of any political fallout.

OK, let's get real about this administration's argument that "everybody was doing it." A few days ago we had the ridiculous claim by the AG that George Washington conducted electronic surveillance.
The fact that Clinton was (and is) an asshole who sold out the voters doesn't mean that Bush isn't. Only in English common law does an act become legal if anyone ever got away with it after going to court, and common law is trumped by any actual written law (like FISA).
I'm surprised that Republicans keep coming back to this bogus argument and can assume that it's because it's the best they have. What a puny stance!
Wilson is wallpapering over her continuing support for war crimes and distancing herself from the administration (at least in the media). Triangulation is no prettier when done by Republicans than when it was done by the Democrats advised by that toe-sucker Dick Morris.
What did your mother tell you when you argued that everybody does it? Mine always responded "if everybody else were jumping off the roof, would you do it, too?" Apparently the Republican answer would be "Sure!" while forcing all of us to jump with them.
If you can't come up with anything more than "Robert Kennedy was just as bad," you expose your weakness. Increasing the volume doesn't make a weak argument stronger, just louder.
BTW, Robert F. Kennedy authorized the wiretapping of the Kings after he was badgered into it by J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover sent compromising surveillance tapes to Mrs. King, encouraged Martin to commit suicide, prevented Marquette University from giving him an honorary degree and hounded both of them for the remainder of his cross-dressing life (such as it was). I'm surprised that you would attempt to justify the immoral assault on the rights of Martin Luther King, Jr., especially so close to Coretta's funeral. What Kennedy authorized was a crime, and most intelligent people know that.
What do you think about the Palmer Raids, Mario? Good idea? Need more of the same today?

Most of the incidents in the past that Repub spin cites took place BEFORE the FISA was passed.
I find it rather shocking that people who call themselves conservative are making excuses for an attempted massive expansion of the executive government's power.
And Heather has voted with BushCo more than 85 percent of the time if I recall correctly.
PS If anyone watched Alberto Gonzales' smirking and empty performance at the recent Congressional hearing with an open mind, I'd think they'd have to agree that something slimey is going on.

Hey Mario,
Why didn't heather do a press release back in december when she wrote Gonzales about the spying issue? why the sudden outcry from heather? Is Janet Jackson part of the spying scandal?

NSA wiretaps are of Al Qaeda suspects calling or receiving calls from overseas. In a time of war, I'd expect nothing less from our commander and chief to listen in on the enemy.
As a conservative Barb, we are smart enough to realize this isn't a massive expansion of government power. These powers to wiretap are powers of the presidency to protect our country against foreign enemies. It was right when Clinton used them on Russian spy Ames. It's right now when Bush is using these powers to prevent another 3000 dead in one of our cities.
Heather Wilson, with all her faults, is strong on defense. Patricia Madrid is a left wing, Micheal Moorish kook. Just like many of the commenters here.

Read the lead editorial in Thursday's WSJ. Actually, Heather should read it and heed it.
