For once, I agree with you Mario. And I blame Mayor Chavez for the defeat. It's well known that Ken Sanchez, Loy and Mayer are in cahoots with Marty. And as you said, the quotes are unreal to say the least.
Thanks for blogging about this issue, Mario. It was quite the scene last night. Brad Winter spent months working with councilors, the administration, Common Cause, the League of Women Voters and others to craft a very good, comprehensive ethics reform package that everyone should have been able to support.
It’s unfortunate and frustrating that three councilors refused to take a stand and support the charter amendments. In my judgment, there was no excuse for not supporting the bill.
Hopefully a similar ethics bill can be added to the ballot in November. I think it is favored by a large majority of voters. Why would anyone oppose it.
I was on the fence about the Mayer recall effort. After her vote for continued favoritism in awarding contracts to campaign contributors, I asked for a copy of the petition. Letting councilors pay off their contributors with our tax dollars is the threshhold to deeper corruption.
