No, it really doesn't settle it. Wilson's entire claim is based on Madrid receiving the letter and no one seems to have a signed copy of the letter (not even Harold Field). If Gary Johnson wanted to settle this he would have said he saw the letter, harold sent it and here's a copy. He can't claim any of that. Instead he's saying "someone told me the letter was sent." We're supposed to believe that's a fact?

Maybe the folks that are so intent on finding (or creating?) this letter should also go looking for the missing file Heather Wilson took from the Children, Youth and Families Dept when she was Secretary.

Gravatar I'm wondering why this issue wasn't raised earlier if it's true. AG Madrid ran for reelection and nothing was ever said about this. Seems rather odd, doesn't it? With no proof the letter was sent or received, this is a nonstory that's being kept alive for political reasons. I wouldn't doubt that Rove himself picked it as a perfect Swiftboat tactic when he was in town with Bush raising money for Wilson.

Gravatar I am not a supporter of Madrid and think she has done a lousy job as A.G.,and I like Johnson, but I think the issue of wheter or not Madrid was notified of the problems in the Treasurer's office is moot because there is no proof. Madrid has failed us as A.G. because she has to toe the party line. I do not understand why the A.G. is a political position to begin with. I feel the same about the position of Sheriff. What difference does it make what party you belong to when your job is to uphold the law?

Gravatar Barb, get a clue. Review posts to this website back in November-December of last year. This has been an issue for a long-long time with New Mexicans. They have seen Patsy Madrid turned a blind eye to corruption that has taken place at the treasurer office, the legislature, and the insurance division of the PRC. Please give the New Mexico voters and public some courtesy that they are smart enough to see what happened in Santa Fe at the AG's office.

You disrespect every one in New Mexico that wants a corruption free government.

And please no crying about Tom Delay, we are all tired of it

Gravatar One way to settle this would be for some enterprising journalist go look at the minutes and recordings of the state board of finance during this time. They are part of the public record

Gravatar When the former Gov. comes forth and states "There were three meetings of the State Board of Finance, which I personally attended, where we discussed our concerns and the need for further investigation. The Attorney General’s office is represented at each and every meeting of the State Board of Finance." How could Patsy not know? What difference does a letter make, her office was aware, she is responsible for what goes on and what does not go on in her office. How quick and easily people will jump on a distraction, namely an unprovable letter and totally ignore the provable work of a respected former Governor.
