Gravatar While I understand your frustration with this situtation, and things being so bad in Socorro and Hatch, I think that perhaps it is important to remember a couple of things. First, Diane Denish is a very capable Lieutenant Governor, and can handle this disaster. Second, Governor Richardson is hardly incommunicado, surely. Third, and I think most importantly, Governor Richardson has done a great deal for these communities and for the state of New Mexico as a whole. I don't know how long you have lived in NM, but my husband and I just came back last fall after 9 years away, and so much has changed for the better...economically, educationally, socially. Crime is down, wages are up, and there is a strong feeling of optimism. There are tangible and intangible improvements that Bill Richardson is directly responsible for. To turn the state over to the likes of John Dendahl would be a severe blow to the progress that has been made, and would stifle the growth for the future.

Nice blog, Mario. You have a lovely family!

Gravatar I compare Richardson to a landlord whose only interest in their property is what they can get from it. He is obviously trying to get back to the East where he is most comfortable.
I am not as easily satisfied as Cara.

Gravatar Well, Richardson is actually out there on behalf of the Democratic Governor's Association, which he heads. He's stumping for the Dem candidate for Guv. If you take the view that elected officials should limit their activities to dealing with diasters (even when there are perfectly capable individuals taking their place), why aren't you ranting about Bush and Cheney using taxpayer money to campaign in NM and many other states while we are in the middle of a war, as Bush always points out?

What would Richardson being in the state change about how relief is being organized and provided to Socorro and Hatch?

Grasping at straws, Mario!

Gravatar Hey, Mario!

You must be getting to the liberal Dems. Keep up the good work.

When Bush and Cheney travel, they're still in the US. Last time I checked Iowa isn't a county in New Mexico.

Yes, Cara, Diane Denish is a competent executive who actually understands New Mexico. If Gov Richardson really wants to do right by New Mexicans, perhaps he should consider simply resigning instead of pretending he care about anything besides his own political career.
