Let me get this started. I support Congresswoman Heather Wilson, and I think John Kerry owes our troops an apology.

If you read the entire transcript, clearly Kerry mispoke. This guy is a war hero that has seen more combat that Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, Hastert, Frist and you, Mario.
I think he understands what it is like to be in the battlefield and would never insult the troops.
This is nothing more than the Republicans trying to grasp at something that will save them.

I think that the real truth is whatever it is that Kerry intended to say, has been long lost in negative campaigning.
Negative campaigning goes beyond pointing out an inconvenient truth. For the most part it means using exageration, out of context statements, misrepresentations and half truths to DELIBERATELY DECIEVE VOTERS in order to win an election.
The sad truth is that we must resolve ourselves to admit that our own favorite candidate (of whatever party or persuasion) is willing to deliberately deceive voters in order to win an election.
Why are we then supprised when they get to Santa Fe or Washington and then deceive us again?

Why are you supporting Kerry, Miguel an Ched? I come from a military family, my husband served in the USMC and is a Desert Storm vet. To see and here people defend an ungreatful American (Kerry) is disgraceful. These brave men and women in our military deserve better than that. Not only should Kerry apologize but should resign and never serve our country again. By the way, quit blaming Republicans for the idiocy commited by democrats. Teresa

What was so offensive about Kerry's comment?
I think he was referring to the fact that most of our troops overseas lack completion of collegiate degrees. Statistics have shown minorities, low-income, and youth-aged individuals enlist soley for the purpose of a "BIG-CHECK".
Face it Mario. Our troops are fighting in Irq not for our freedom or for patriotism....but for the selfish cause of a MEAL ticket.
Kerry owes no one an apology.
If anything, the troops in Iraq who are fighting against innocent Iraqi children in the dark of night, should apologize to us TAXPAYERS for soaking up our money for a useless cause. I do NOT want my money spent for a immature motives which youth troops can spend on beer and partyin once they return.

Kerry has a long history of demonizing the troops, dating back to vietnam. Whether or not it was a blotched joke about Bush or not, he still owes an apology for his stupidity.
And quite frankly, if he'd just done it in the first place this would all be over now.
If anything, the troops in Iraq who are fighting against innocent Iraqi children in the dark of night, should apologize to us TAXPAYERS for soaking up our money for a useless cause.
...is it just me or has the last ten years or so seen an enormous increase in idiot liberals?
Must be something in the water...

This is for you, Daniel. For the record, my husband salary in the Marines was a little over 13K. Now you tell me our troops are there for a BIG CHECK. My husband like many others put their life on the line so people like you can bash them. If I was your parent I would be ashamed. Maybe you are not man enough to serve.

Firstly, obviously he "mis-spoke" because it was a stupid thing to say.
That doesn't adress what he really thinks of the troops. I misspeak all the time but I don't think I would ever make that particular mistake because it's not one that I'd have to guard against since I feel very strongly against that sentiment *even* when expressed in some other way, exchanging "dig ditches" for the military, for example. It's contrary to my ideas about education. In my gut I don't think that people with higher levels of education are smarter than those without. Nearly *anyone* is smart enough to graduate college. Nor do I see labor as less valuable, important, or praiseworthy than work done at a desk. Some work pays better than other work, but many people *enjoy* working with their hands and would find many "better" occupations unpleasant or even oppressive.
Take out the military reference and the sentiment, common enough to be sure, is still elitist.
But this from miguel... "I think he understands what it is like to be in the battlefield and would never insult the troops." This is just silly. Not only would John Kerry insult our troops but he has in no uncertain terms, in the past, called them torturers and baby killers and war criminals one and all. Why would *anyone* assume that he thinks our military is made up of good people just because he'd been in it?
Should he apologize? I don't care if he does or not. It would have been the smart thing to do, to just take responsibility for saying something stupid and say he's sorry, but he didn't. His choice. It's not like most of us don't already know that a whole lot of people believe that joining the military is what poor stupid people are forced into.
As for *that*, the demographics for enlistment don't hold up that myth. The milblogs are posting demographic info that shows that the fastest decreasing group for enlistment is from poor neighborhoods, the poorest 1/5 of neighborhoods now contribute little more than 13% of enlisted recruits... proportionally it ought to be 20%.
If Daniel was right and the military was recruiting more from those without other economic options that number would be higher than 20%.
It's not.

For those who are saying that he mispoke, then why would he not appologize for mispeaking. I know that if I mispoke and something as horrible as that came out, the first thing I would do is appologize and explain the truth. But nope, Kerry wouldn't appologize. Also, I have a philosophy, if you have said it, that you have thought it. I think it shows the true man Kerry isn't. Rant over.

I support Patricia Madrid, and I do believe that Kerry should apologize.
It's very obvious that Kerry's comments don't reflect his viewpoints. It's very clear that what he said is not what he intended to say. But I don't think that changes the derogatory nature of the statement. If you made a bad joke that you realized afterward was offensive, wouldn't you apologize to the person you'd offended?

Mario: John Kerry owed no one an apology... However, Bush the Liar does owe an apology to All Americans regardless of Political Party. Bush Lied to the American People to justify his WAR and Occupation of Iraq.. Bush has gone as far as using our G.I.'s as mercenaires to protect American Corporations in Iraq. Bush also lied to our G.I.'s and you know of the lies. Lets not forget that Bush was AWOL during the Vietnam War... For your information Mario, Over 58,000 Americans were killed (KIA) and thousands were wounded (WIA) in Vietnam while our Devil President Bush hide behind the Walls at the Country Club getting drunk and OTHER. We could of used his flying skills to drop HE, CBU and napam on the attacking NVA positions during the Secret War in Laos and in Vietnam... Bush in my book is a Coward and a Liar. Mario, I want thank you for your combat service to our Country so welcome home Buddy. Eli Chavez, Progressive Independent

Eli, Bush volunteered to go to Vietnam. He was turned down. The worst you can say is that he somehow knew before he volunteered that the final decision would be that they wouldn't send his type of fighters and would decide it wasn't efficient to retrain those pilots for different aircraft.
I don't know how he would have known that, but it's possible.

The president’s and Kerry’s service records, “compare very favorably,” said Racicot.
The president “signed up for dangerous duty,” he said. “He volunteered to go to Vietnam. He wasn’t selected to go but nonetheless served his country very well.” You didn’t know the president volunteered to go to Vietnam? If this is news to you, it’s probably because it’s simply not true.

I for one am for freedom of speech, no apology is needed he spoke his mind. Millions of Americans have lost there lives so others may live free and express there views. What does concern me is people spouting off un-truths. Weapons of mass destruction were in Iraq and were used on the Iraqi populous, i.e biological weapons. Lets not use the spin nuclear weapons. Enough of that rant. Freedom of speech is a precious gift, so please don't forget what we are all about.

He won't. It's too important to him. I'm not sure why.
It must be so strange to try to figure out some reason, some way to make sense of the fact that by-and-large military members and veterans have no trouble with Bush's military record and see Kerry as the un-military idiot he is. We're supposed to respect Kerry's service and despise Bush for his and a vast majority of veterans see it exact opposite.
If a world view is so useless to predict behavior, maybe it's the world view that's wrong? Hmm?
People have these really strange ideas about the military and how it works. Bush was AWOL? In what reality? (A clue for the clueless... you clear it with your commander, it's not AWOL.) Kerry supports the troops? When has he *ever*?

Dear Anonymous:
I and millions of Americans will never forget what Bush and his Regime did to our Brave G.I.'s. 2,800 PLUS of our G.I.'s have been KIA and over 20,000 were WIA since Bush Invaded and Occupied Iraq. FACT: Bushs war and occupation of Iraq were all based on Bushs Lies. Lets not forget that THOUSANDS of Iraqis were also Killed and Wounded by Bush. Bush is the Commander in Chief and he ORDERED the INVASION and Occupation of Iraq. Bush was the Commander in Chief when he landed on an aircraft carrier 15 miles from San Diego and stated MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Remember the Banner on an aircraft carrier? Bush lied to the American People about the Mission Accomplished statement. Since that Statement, over 2,000 of our G.I.'s have been KIA and Thousands have been WIA. Now the the Military Times wants Bush to Fire Rumsfeld? Why, because Rumsfeld and Bush want to stay on course while our G.I.'s are Targets in the Iraqi Civil War. This not a joking matter Anonyomus, it is a fact. I can go on and on about Bush the Devil but Mario would not like for me to use up all of his space. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your Combat Service in the defense of our Constitution. Welcome Home Buddy. Eli Chavez, Progressive Independent

Eli,
I come from a military family, my spouse is a vet and I have many active military friends. I know this is no joking matter. Do you know majority of the Iraqi people, the ones the media do not show, are greatful Saddam and regime were taken down. FACT Genocide was being commited, FACT atrocities were happening their. FACT Saddam used biological weapons on his own people. Is this not a good enough reason. Should let them die because their Arab? Should we not protect our country from potential WMD- nuclear or biological? History repeats itself is so ironic and so true. Should we have not entered WW2? So many of our brave were killed and injured in WW2. Their bravery was for the greater good and national defense.
Our brave men and women in the military VOLUNTEERED to join, knowing the risk before pledging and still enlisted. This is a dangerous world, to let tyranny and terrorism succeed would only be our demise. So I know this is no joking matter. Our brave men and women put their life on the line for our freedom and for the Iraqi men, women and child life.
My husband met an Iraqi and his family last week and they were thankful to this great nation for there freedom. So I know this is no joking matter. Look at the accomplishments made, look at the life being preserved by our great military.
