I would have to agree with your comments. New Mexico looks like a laughing stock to the nation. What we do not know how to count in NM? We can't even get through one election without this happening when their is a Republican running for office...It smells like a chance for corruption to me. Madrid has no class, that's why she does not call Wilson and concede.

HELLO!?!? If there was a democratic scheme, Democrats would be winning the election in New Mexico, and the presidential in 2004. Being up by .8% of the vote is hardly a reason to declare victory.

I watched Eye on NM and did not find the discussion very interesting. It seemed superficial at best. Dennis seems like a nice guy, but I don't care how jazzed he is about the election. Shut up and give me some analysis.
I still do not understand concerns over counting votes quickly. The emphasis should be on a complete and accurate tally. PERIOD. Once we can safely say it is being done accurately and all votes are counted, then we can worry about speed. With a race as close as NM-01 seems to be, it behooves all of us to make sure the tally is accurate and complete.

DJ, thanks for watching Eye on New Mexico, and I'm sorry to have disappointed you.
Now, here is the problem with the paper ballot situation. Going to paper was just backwards. It didn't/doesn't make any sense. The longer you take to count the ballots, the less faith people have in the process. Why? Because it just invites tampering. Plus, human error enters into the equation. Volunteers making tally marks at 4:00 a.m. after going 24 hours without any sleep is practically a guarantee that mistakes are going to be made.
The whole process reminded me of the inventories I used to do when I worked in retail during high school and some of college. There were always mistakes. How many of those people tabulating the ballots can't even balance their checkbook? I'd be willing to bet quite a few.
We made a mistake by going to paper ballots. If anything, we should have gone to electronic ballots that spit out a "receipt" for the voter, so, they can be confident of their vote.
It's a mess, and the County Clerk announcing that there is the same number of ballots still remaining to be counted day after day does nothing to inspire confidence.

The qualifictions of the secretary of state should be that of having duel degrees in statictics and human engineering. The going rate for such a person ranges from 40K-20K/yr.
I propose that paper ballots have Republicans on one side and Democrats on the other with a small space for third parties on the bottom.
That would be easier for the human eye to decern.
