Most states have an automatic recount if the vote is within .5%. In this race .5% would be around 1,050 votes. The difference between madrid and Wilson is 879. It would be common sense to have a recount even if the results are the same. I believe that in the next legislative session a .5% automatic recount is going to be up for a vote and should easily pass. I wouldn't care if Madrid was up by the same amount, .5% is .5% and to be as accurate as possible should be recounted, especially with the awful ballot counting that has been going on after the election.(No offense to those who volunteered, Im talking about the paid workers who should of run a better operation). And no, Mr.Burgos, this had nothing to do with the paper ballot system. It had everything to do with the people running it.
Oh, oh...This reminds me of the hanging chads in 2000. Recount over and over until you get the numbers that look good for them. When will it ever end? Why should I as a taxpayer have to pay for a automatic recount? This is why there is one election day and the results should be tallied within one day not ten or fourteen. It's bad enough our taxes will increase when the Dems take over next year.
I hope Madrid is not a sore loser, maybe she'll suprise us all and call Heather, congratulate her and concede. The honorable way. Or, maybe she won't suprise us and go through the liberal courts for help. Then I'm sure extra ballots will be found.
Maybe New Mexicans will remember this when it's re-election time for Herrera. What I am I saying, this is NM she get re-elected she's a Dem and a hispanic. I see the future elections just as incompetent as this one. Thank you Mary Herrera.
Yeah, after reading previous posts, I think we need to do something about the way we count ballots. Maybe getting rid of the paper and moving into the 21ist century would help.
Hey Mario. Love your presence on 'the line'. Though I disagree with most of the bs you peddle, I'm on board with you about this election recount. It is a sad state of affairs that it takes 10 days to get the results from an election. Further, like you, the idea of not accepting the result where all the election system has been set up by the democrats is embarrassing. I personally would like to see a single national election system and do-away with these state to state differences. We need a reliable, verifiable, and proven system instead of these patch works of various rules and procedures throughout the country. If I could make one suggestion, try to keep an open mind and stay positive in your commentary about politics. I like listening to the facts, but not insults cast at either party.
Recount is acceptable with this close of a result. If Heather was down by the same margin, I daresay you would not be whining for her to concede. This is a perfect example of why Monahan is the go to blog for NM politics despite your shrill critiques of him. Sure, his baises occasionally sneak through but he is a great source of news and information. Your blog can be summed up as "democrats stupid, republicans great." Its boring predictable partisan hackery my friend. Madrid is entitled to a recount if she wants one, Heather would be as well if the tables were turned.

Being from, born in and still presiding in California...liberals can be very sore losers. I have known a few political sore losers who have had recounts, but they do not last this long in politics like Madrid has been allowed to.
I guess California has a higher standard than New Mexico when comes to the rule of sore losers...makes one think.
Anyway, I hope the state of New Mexico can get it's act together if not you may as state consider various recall election methods. California has recalled a governor and may be on its way to recall a whole state legislative body if they keep attacking the governor.

Mario. The sound on The Line was not coming in last night. Anybody else have trouble hearing The Line last night?
I had the volume turned up to maximum in order to hear what was being said.
Yeah, I had a problem as well. The sound was all fuzzy and I couldn't make it out. I'll check it out online on Monday and see if it's any better.
Back to Madrid's arrogant attitude toward the vote counting. The votes have been counted and it is time to move along.
Heather Brewer is scared to death she won't have a job. Employers in New Mexico aren't looking for arrogant snobby spokespeople. She will have to go someplace elso to do that.
One of the frustrations of the campaign was that no one from the Madrid would ever answer a question. It was always this bob and weave and answering a question with a question.

A complete recount would cost approximately $30,000 according to the Bernalillo County Clerk. Unlike many other states, where automatic recounts are conducted and paid for by the state if vote differences are under a certain margin, those requesting a recount in NM-01 would have to bear the cost. If the recount resulted in a change in the winner or election fraud was discovered, that money would be refunded.
A recount would be completely fair. Stop complaining.

Ok all the votes were counted, the results certified, and Madrid conceded. Are you happy now- was it worth all the whining? I mean its really crazy to want all the votes counted when the winner is ahead with 50.2% of the vote right!? I'm gonna remember this next time a republican is down with 49.8% and you insist that every vote must be counted for a concession. Heather to the back benches, onward Speaker Pelosi!
All of the Christians will pray Pelosi will change her radial left views.
And by the why there was no whining on our part, I think I heard more Madrid supporters and staff whine, it was annoying.
