Gravatar What is necessay to get a person elected as president? Appeal to the most people. Here is how I would go about that.
1. They must be a member of the majority party.
2. They must belong to a group who are most likely to vote as a block.
3. The must appeal to those who are dependent on the government.
4. They must appeal to the feminist by promising to sign the freedom of Choice Act.
5. The should try to appeal to seniors by saying they will not be taxed.
6. They should appeal to the pacifist by saying they will negotiate not fight.
Why would you not vote for such a person? I am surprised Obama's lead is not 75%.
Can you think of any other reasons to vote Obama?

Gravatar I forgot the young voters. Appeal to them by the candidate take on movie star like qualities.

Gravatar I can't believe Republicans are still taking Palin seriously. I understand that the hard right are enthusiastic about her as a faux populist culture warrior but she's amply demonstrated that she's just not very bright. How much would the GOP be freaking out right now if Biden had just been found guilty of abuse of power? The silence is palpable.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how the hard right will smear Colin Powell. Any hints on what the official GOP talking points for that one are Mario? I assume it will take the form of accusing him of endorsing Obama only because they're both african-american. Good luck with that one.

Gravatar Sarah Palin is 'just not very bright'? Where is the proof? Dan, you can do better than that.

I only see a wife and mom who decided to do something other than complain, so she became involved in local politics. It turns out she had a knack for it and ended up Governor.

Also, if Gov Palin was 'found guilty', when will she be sentenced? Guilty is a legal finding in a criminal court. If I recall correctly that isn't what happened at all. But, it is convenient to tell the story that way, isn't it?

Here's something from Joe Biden to brighten your day, "J-O-B-S is a three-letter word."

For what it's worth, I don't really believe that verbal gaffes are a valid way to measure someone's mental capacity. ;^)

Gravatar I would say that being unable to even come up with the name of her home town newspaper indicates that she's (to say the least) not very intellectually nimble on her feet. Her embarrassing bumbling in all her interviews (aside from the Hannity interview which was basically an infomercial) showed amply that she's just not very bright. I did like how McCain had to sit in on the Couric followup to hold her hand and chastise Katie (of all people) for not giving her easy enough questions, despite the fact that Couric asked her no difficult questions at all.

"The running mate of US Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been found guilty of an abuse of power, according to a state legislature probe."

You'll recall that this is the probe that Palin herself called for, before she was picked for the VP slot. Recall also that the AK state legislature is overwhelmingly Republican. Oops. Fortunately for her, the legislature doesn't have the power to punish her and only the state Personnel Board, all of whom were appointed by Palin herself.

Frankly this scandal is fairly minor as political scandals go but it gives the lie to her campaign message of being an honest reformer rather than a typical semi-corrupt politician.

Palin does have a knack for the culture warrior style populism that the GOP has recently been fond of. What I don't understand is why people actually fall for it. When Palin goes to heavily GOP districts and tells her supporters that they're the "real America" (implying that those evil Dems in the cities are not "real America", I would expect, especially after the disaster of the last eight years which were caused by people falling for this in 2000 and 2004, for people to say "Wow, what a load of bullshit. Do you have any actual policies?" Maybe I'm expecting too much of people.

Unfortunately it appears to me that the GOP is already gearing up to pretend that the lesson to be taken from the electoral beating they're about to receive (certainly in the House and Senate, very likely in the Presidential Race) is that the GOP needs to move further to the right on social issues when (in my opinion) they need to move to the middle on social issues and go back to actually being small government conservatives rather than gigantic government but we're just going to borrow your kids' money to pay for it conservatives.

Sarah Palin is everything that's wrong with the GOP: Her only articulated policy positions have to do with religion-based social positions and the idea that all economic problems can be resolved by cutting taxes and drilling for oil. That's an insult to the intelligence of the American people (which, by the way, is why Palin went from extremely high positive ratings to net negative ratings in only four weeks.)

Gravatar Mario - I too had lived in many states, born in Florida - moved to San Juan Puerto Rico when I was 2, back to the US when I was 12, and from there lived in Nevada (Reno, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas), Denver Co., Mountains and Seacoast of NH, Pennsylvania and now Southern part of NJ.
I see McCain as a true leader with experience that is ready to change with confidence for what is best for our country. Cindy McCain has done so much as a philantropist, I think that she would make great First Lady.
Sarah Palin - Brilliant choice - will do best in domestic issues.
El tiempo para cambios es ahora!
Vote McCain/Palin 08
