I don't think that the Reps can adapt. They are ossified in promoting fear and divisiveness in the electorate. The fundies will never allow any flexibility. It is beyond race and gender; they are ideologically set in stone.

Dr. Samuel Johnson of dictionary fame once said: "The knowledge that a man is about to be hanged does wonders to fix the mind." When Republicans are about to be hanged (by Hillary Clinton) I believe they/we will learn how to adapt. I agree with Mario that Bill Richardson is having a lot of "senior moments" well before he's eligible for Social Security. I think (don't know this for sure) that the Dems are going to target states where they can do well with voters of Latin backgrounds, specifically NM (surprise), CO, and AZ, as well as FL. If they win a few of them, they win the presidency. Richardson would be an asset. First, of course, he has to get that big foot out of his mouth. I never figured out the Quayle nomination thing . . . I wrote a column recently about 50 years of bad v-p choices, and yes, I was talking about my beloved Republican Party.
