Where did you quote this from?
A very simple and offensive answer: "Companion legislation (HR.474) was introduced in the House by Representative Heather Wilson."
Sounds like speculation on your part to me.

Mario,
Are you also going to blast the President for recently not wanting to give a raise to the troops?

JD,
The quote "Companion legislation (HR.474) was introduced in the House by Representative Heather Wilson" is in the press release found on Senator Bingaman's website.
C'mon, you know better than to accuse me of speculation when it comes to quotes.

The Federal Justice system is under a VERY dark cloud of admitted partisanship and you are worried about this unsubstantiated speculation? IF it is true then shame on them!! Maybe we should ask a more important question: Why the Republican Congress did not do better oversight of the VA over these past 6 years and DEMAND that the Current Occupant (thanks Garrison Keillor!) fully fund the needs of the VA, or come up with a better choice for Vets, when the occupation in Iraq went south. Rising casualties and no real progress year after year might have been a clue. Wasn't Heather part of the majority? ANY Vet could have told you about pressure being put on the system. Heather is a Vet but I think the Congressional Health Plan works a little better than the VA.
Bill Richardson actually has a plan for Vets. Give them a medical card good at ANY medical facility. I can't remember all the details, but if I remember correctly any veteran, wounded or not, would be able to access the medical care facility of his or her choice. It could be that only vets with service connected disability would get one. Not sure. But it is a good start! I will write Domenici, Bingaman, and Udall (my Congressman)to get the ball rolling. Anyone care to join me? This is an excellent way to Support the Troops.

I think the speculation to which JD refers is not the origin of the quote, which is indeed Bingaman's site, but whether miss Wilson's involvement has anything to do with why this bill isn't being heard.
While the facts regarding the quote's origin are pretty obvious, the facts underlying that conclusion are somewhat less so...

I'll join you David. To worry about adding additional honors to someone already honored by a medal of honor is indicative of what is wrong with Congress (BOTH Republicans and Democrats. Shame on the focus of pomp and illusion over real substance!
To allow our troops to get caught in a Hail Mary attempt in the hope that the US will have privileged access to Iraqi Oil, the largest US Embassy in the world, and permanent military bases is reprehensible.
While more REAL support of military personnel and their families as David proposes is a small first step, the only REAL support of our troops is to bring them home ASAP and to continue draining the swamp in D.C.

So...
I take this to mean that erichwwk and David Jacobs do NOT support the name change, would vote against it and all that jazz.
Because it doesn't specifically focus on their prefered agenda.
This simply proves that it's not possible to get any sort of bi-partisan *anything* because certain folks (usually complaining about how Republicans are divisive) absolutely refuse to do so much as appear to sort of maybe not hate the very air Republicans breathe.
At this point it's about spite, people.
The suggestion that IN FACT this is being opposed BECAUSE Heather Wilson introduced it becomes more than believable. It hardly seems a stretch of speculation at all.

Are you actually serious? I stumbled across this supposed egregious comment and wanted to know more. After much searching of CSPAN, the Library of Congress, the House of Reps website, as well as Jeff Bingaman's site (which you cite as reference), I realized that your accusation, in full blown quotation marks, is simply an ASSUMPTION. And, of course, we all know assuming does. You've merely stated the already known fact that Heather Wilson introduced the companion bill, but you quoted it as if someone actually said this as a means of explanation. Let your blood boil over something that really matters, like veterans whose small businesses have gone under during their extended and repeated deployments, or family finances that have gone in the dump due to lost wages while serving in Iraq, or worst of all, all the children who've lost dads and moms who were fighting to achieve stability in a war without the manpower, tools or good information and planning that could have ensured a chance at success. This is pathetic.

Melissa, I'm not going to deny that those are all tremendous sacrifices that deserve to be acknowledged. It is precisely for this reason that this recent action by Congressman Filner is so offensive.
We are in a time of war, and many people are making tremendous sacrifices, as many people have before them. Mr. Murphy was one such person.
We can agree or disagree whether or not we should be in this war. But, what is undeniable, is that people are giving their lives for our country, so that you and I can sit here and safely have this dialog.
Our elected officials should never play partisan politics with the memory of a war hero. And, to do it during the week leading up to Memorial Day, just serves to make this all the more outrageous.

Filner is dead wrong on this issue. But every member of the New Mexico delegation and Gov. Bill Richardson all support the bill and have been pressuring Filner to drop this needless grandstanding.
This seems something very Tom DeLayish, and I was hoping this sort of politics would have left with the Hammer and Republican rule. Unfortunately, it's still here with some vengeful Dems.
But kudos to every member of the New Mexico delegation and Richardson for supporting this. But shame on Filner.
