Gravatar Absurd???

What is absurd is that a political, religious and nonprofit solicitor exemption is being proposed. Why???

I suppose Mario considers it "absurd" for a homeowner to refuse what he considered a great deal, and would force the homeowner to accept what he sees as a wonderful offer. So much for free enterprise.

I would be very interested in hearing why Mario considers it reasonable to force a homeowner to accept solicitations on his own private property against his/her will.

For the record, I also solicited mowing services door-to-door in my youth, but w/o consider this as an entitlement. Rather than consider a request to not solicit "absurd", why not respect that individual wish, and move on, without a need to announce one's superiority, or another's absurd inferiority.

Enough of this holier than thou.

Gravatar I think a homeowner is entitled to put whatever sign (no solicit or otherwise) they want on their property. What I think is absurd is that the City of Albuquerque is going to create an unneeded ordinance because of a couple of criminals.

Gravatar If you think it is an "unneeded ordinance" then you haven't been in my neighborhood. This ordinance gives you the right to call the police and have something done about the solicitations. Sure, you could do that now but would they come? Therein lies the bigger question.

"The police... always come late..."

Back when you were a kid, when I was a kid, etc... you could knock on your neighbor's door and ask to mow their lawn. These days? How many people actually know who their neighbors are and how many people would actually let their kids do this? Yes, we live in a scary time. Did you see KRQE's report on the increase in firearms sales since this elderly couple was murdered?
Makes you think...

I don't believe this ordinance is an infringement upon homeowners or anyone else's rights. I believe it will simply help to uphold "No Soliciting" on my property and give me a legal leg to stand on when Joe Schmoe and his carpet cleaning, exterminating, and relentless religious pushers show up at my door.

Holier than thou is right...

Gravatar Just think if the city had a no knock ordiance those folks would be alive.

You bet, while Lee and Rowley had no problem breaking the law and taking their lives. With the new ordiance, they would have stepped back and thought, oh my, we don't have a permit and there is a no knock sign; we should go to a city that doesn't have this type of ordiance.....

What Mario is saying is that the ordiance will do nothing in stopping killers from killing, but may stop an innocent kid from selling lawning mowing services.

Gravatar All wrong, the city is looking at the problem all wrong.

The city should have an ordiance that requires that all garage doors be in a down position unless there is a vehicle or person leaving or entering. A large fine could be imposed on the Albuquerque citizens that do not comply with the ordinances. After two violations, it would be a misdeamor with violators subject with up to a year in jail.

The first violation could be a warning, with the second be a fine of $150.00. All citizens with garages would be required to have a garage permit issued by the city for $35.00 per year. If you don't have a permit you can be fined up to $150 and subject to a year in jail.

I am calling my councilor with this idea. I suggest everyone else to the same.
