Gravatar Are you sure they aren't terrorists disguised as barhoppers? Sounds like a job for the ACLU!

Gravatar In 1977, in Passaic, New Jersey, my grandfather, Ennio Mario Valente, was killed along with a companion he was walking home, by a hit and run drunk driver. The driver, as it turned out, was the nephew of a NJ State Legislator, and had multiple offenses yet was never charged with the murder of two little old people. Drunk driving has always been an issue close to my heart.

New Mexico has big problems in this area. I applaud any efforts that help reduce the dangers on our streets. I believe that any liquor vending establishment SHOULD face legal consequences for overserving or selling to people who are already intoxicated. This is not NY, where the drunks stumble onto the subway or hail a cab. They get in their pick up trucks and attempt the 30, 40, 90 mile drives back home. Education, ignition interlocks, stiffer penalties and mandatory treatment are all good policies, but purveyors of alcohol should always be mindful of the power of their wares, and have the restraint to refuse to sell to the intoxicated, and if they can't do that then they should be held responsible.
