If your kid charged an altercation on the court and you responded like Rep. Foley, it wouldn't be too hard to discern his "lessons" in sportsmanship.

Seems to me from reading the Record http://www.roswell-record.com/ ma...ArticleID=13695 that it's a simple case of "like father (parent--APS,RGHS!), like son".

Thankfully, most parents with kids involved in sports realize it is a privledge and teach their kids to behave appropriately.

Gravatar Scott, no argument that participating in sports is a privilege. I wasn't there, and I haven't had any contact with Rep. Foley. The report you cite has Foley's son charging the court. The other reports I've seen have the altercation starting with Foley's son and another player. Either way, when a parent sees his son pushed to the ground by another adult, it is going to cause a reaction.

I can imagine as a parent wanting to get my son out of that situation, and I can envision that I might also get angry and use strong language if I was told that I could not go get my son. I should add that I've been coaching kids' sports for the last four years, and I've seen a lot of different situations involving parents. No matter which "news story" you read, this one seems to have been blown all out of proportion.

Gravatar Regardless of the outcome, I would have thought a lot less of Foley if he did not step in to protect his son.

Gravatar Mario
What a spinner you are.
I am wondering would you have also spat at the officer? Would you have threatened the officers job? Any reasonable person would have calmed down once the officer had made a presence.
I guessed you had a bad temper after you threw your local party under the bus a couple of months ago but I would have never guessed you would have done those things to a police officer.

Gravatar First Commissioner Cordova and now Representative Foley jumping in for their kids. What a concept! I wonder if the Commissioner chews tobacco?

Gravatar Fred, I don't chew tobacco. By the looks of the pictures, my guess is that the guy had a big wad of chew in his mouth, and when he started to talking, stuff starting flying. That's why I've taught my kids its not polite to talk with food in your mouth - it's bound to be spit out on something or someone.

Gravatar If the Roswell report is correct, Representative Foley should make a public apology and remove himself from the legislative committees on which he serves.

Mario, if you've read the Roswell account, then I'm somewhat disappointed in your apparent defense of Rep. Foley. At the very least you should have gained more evidence before you opted to support poor sportmanship, and yes even assault on the part of a parent and public official gone awry. I'm sure the "chew" did not contain steroids or methamphetamine, so I can see no compelling reason to allow my rep. Foley a free shot.

Gravatar Hog-Wash! About the story on Foley....Foley's a Repbulican...if it was a Democratic no discussion would be taking place. Where I come from lawmakers sleep with assistances' spouses accompained with reporters( ask the mayors of SF and LA), have DUIs (various state lawmakers), knowingly hire people with criminal backrounds(various small time city mayors)..even have interns disappear mysteriously( previous federal level elected officials)...to top off criminally charged politicians do not have to resign until the politicians employees threaten to protest(mostly state law makers)....Well this is CA after all. It's a Democratic state. The Governor, the Insurance Commissor, a handful of GOP state & federal lawmakers are it....mmm makes one think..Foley protects son...others protect criminals
