Nothing against Heather Wilson...but Steve Pearce and perhaps Pat Lyons would wipe the floor in a GOP primary.
Given the recent polling from KOB-TV on SurveyUSA, Steve Pearce is the most solid candidate from the GOP-side. He is ethically clean and morally just. He doesn't have the Iglesia scandal as a cloud over his head. He also has his base committed to him on issues of immigration, war on terror, and other mainline GOP issues.
Heather's reputation as a "moderate" may cost her valuable votes in Southern/Eastern New Mexico. Also Wilson has a dilemma attracting the ultra-liberal Northern New Mexico voters from Santa Fe all the way to Taos. Wilson has been successful here in the 1st Congressional District because by definition the district mirrors here "moderate" leaning democrat status. The district is not overly liberal and thus it is always a toss-up for any candidate from either side of the aisle.

Mario,
Although the gap may close between Democrats and Republicans outside of District 1, outside of District 1 Democrats are less likely to cross party line. That is why it is so difficult for Republicans to win state wide election.
As for Richardson jumping in, Heather has as much of a chance at beating him as you have growing your hair back. It ain't going to happen. They could debate once a week and it won't make a differenc.
Chavez is your best chance and the Democrats are not going to give up that seat that easily. Udall, the Lt Guv or Bill will be her challenger. Chavez is the only one with nothing to lose so he has been chosen to keep the seat warm and toss bombs at Heather.
The Republican party should be focused on District 1, less lose both seats.

Mario Burgos, Bloggers & Readers:
Under estimating Heather Wilson would be a fatal mistake. She has the fight in her and will survive another election cycle. I admit in the fall mid-term elections of 2006, I thought she was a goner.
As a reader you may not agree with Wilson all the time. The woman has earned the respect of the people of New Mexico along with mine.
Earning my personal respect is no easy task. As a child Margret Thatcher has held my personal admiration.Wilson, although no Margret Thatcher she should have your support.
