the modral law firm will make a lot of money off this case. their relationship with aps is already the subject of criticism; apparently they do a lot more (highly profitable) litigating than any comparable district. modral even has a representative on the school board in the person of paula maes; who is married to the president of modral.
might makes right; more easily so if you are accountable to no one.

The monolith rears its ugly head once again. APS has a way of doing all the wrong things in one fell swoop. From buying a boondoggle of a building while schools' capital needs went unmet. Now this! All because they want to hold on to a program mostly funded by parent volunteers to benefit kids interested in music. Just so they lay clain to a program that is doing wondeful things. It is no wonder we have so little confidence for the APS administration.
Shame on them for being so callous. Let the parents be unfettered from the bureacracy of APS and let them do what is best for these kids.

The weirdest part of this weird story is:
"But Savage said a recent audit of the group's activity fund at East San Jose didn't uncover any accounting problems."
Huh? I TRY to avoid any news about APS, feeling it is best for my psyche to pretend it doesn't exist, but occasionally I make a simple inadvertent glance in the wrong direction and it's straight into the Lewis Carroll rabbit-hole I go. The only question sometimes is who's playing the Mad Hatter, etc.

Mario - Ched - Gus - and Scot: You really missed the boat on this one.
You should do less time thinking about your grammar and more time on your homework.
Ched: Modrall's invoice was less than $4K. By the way, over 80 families got back $6K. Check the court records.
Gus: A small group of parents ran off with the large group of parents' money. What did you want APS to do?
Scot: APS City Center appraised at $28 Million in April '07. It was purchased for $13 Million in '02. Wow! $15 Million in 5 years. Hmmmmm.
Mario: Shame on you! APS was earnest in their support of you when you worked to build volunteers with Junior Achievement. Why have you turned your back?

I wouldn't say I've turned my back on APS - far from it. APS was a GREAT partner when I ran JA, and I am sure they are still today. Both of my kids go to an APS school, and we are thrilled with the experience. Unfortunately, I know first hand, from my JA experience, that what my kid's school is not the norm. In fact, there is a reason we picked our kids school (yes, they're transfer students).
If you go back through the archives, you'll also find that I'm NOT an advocate for breaking up APS, but when I think something is wrong, I'm going to write it.
