You forgot the part that its not up to the local police to enforce federal law. She was not convicted of anything so dont say she was breaking the law, that was never ascertaned. I believe the officer was racially profiling Hispanic students, which is illigal. This is common pracice to harrass Hispanic people in general in Roswell. I am concerned that the whites will use this as an excuse to harrass Hispanics more. The chief here said they were looking for middle eastern men, what? In Roswell High, I didnt know there was a problem with middle eastern men in Roswell. There is another group that is being profiled. I hope the RPD gets sued big time.

George,
The young lady was in violation of Federal law. Specifically, 8 U.S.C. 1325 states that no person can enter the U.S. without first being inspected by the INS. All local officers are federal officers charged to uphold and defend the local laws and the federal laws. The local officer cannot choose which laws to enforce just because the officer does not like the laws or the officer thinks that the laws do not make sense. As a reminder, the officer is a part of the executive branch of the government. The Congress, led by Pelosi and Reid, has had ample opportunity to change the law that the young lady is accused of breaking [i.e., 8 U.S.C. 1325]. Congress has not changed the law. The federal courts have not declared the law unconstitutional. The officer is thus left with the obligation of enfocing the law.
On another matter, accusations of racial profiling are very serious. If this officer unequally enforces/applies the law to one group as opposed to another, you can raise the issue. If, however, there is no evidence that this officer has engaged in such an act, one must be careful in making such an assertion. If such an assertion is not legally justified, one might get sued.

You cant automatically say it is racial profiling because she is hispanic. She is here ILLEGALLY, that is the main point!
SHE IS AN ILLEGAL, she shouldnt be here!
Im sorry if that is harsh but all the laws in this country need to be enforced!

Racial profiling?
I have a question.
What percentage of the Roswell student population could be *visually* considered to be possibly Hispanic?
Are blond kids really a majority down there?

Let me start out by saying, I am a very conservative Republican. Synova, their not all blond kids done there. I have a HISPANIC brother and his family that lives in Roswell. All ethnic back grounds live in Roswell. We as a nation need to deal with the illegal immigrant issue like Americans not babies. There are millions of illegal immigrants living in the U.S., wouldn't it be prudent for them to become citizens and taxpayers.Let's face it, we wont do the jobs they do. Every American's ancestors were once immigrants-the word illegal was not present back then. Amnesty is key and compassionate thing to do. We are the greatest nation on the planet, why not show it. Reach into your heart and soul, they are people too.
