So does the far right's Freedom Watch bother you? How about the old Swiftboaters? I could go on.

barb, I'm sure we've all noticed by now that Mario never responds to questions because he doesn't have any answers. He's just a mouthpiece. He, along with all the other GOP mouthpiece blogs in the state have all posted about this supposed scandal today, indicative that its part of the state GOP's official talking points marching orders. He, along with all those other mouthpieces, is just *outraged* about this... mere accusation for which there is as yet no support evidence. Mario is a tool of the incompetent NM GOP, and not even a very good one.
Don't bother pointing out to Mario how much of a hypocrite he is, he doesn't care.

But Barb, there's a hint of hypocrisy in your statement as well. Are you really willing to give Eli Lee a pass because he's "one of our guys" (something I'd question) while denouncing Mario for not unloading on the Swifties? I think a fair argument to make is that if you're OK with Eli Lee's tactics, then you should be OK with the new Freedom Watch BS attack on Heinrich as well, fair being fair and all that. Personally, I find both sides actions to be repugnant, although I think Eli's mailings in the one unopposed race was a cute little smokescreen he thought people would bite on.
Eli's actions lead me to another question, at what point do "non-partisan mailings about one candidate" become de-facto attacks on behalf of the other candidate? If Eli was really non-partisan, his organizations would send these mailings out about every incumbent in the Legislature, and the Governor as well.

Benson, the problem is that, right now, there are only accusations of a smear campaign on Eli's part. I live in James Taylor's district and I received no negative mailings about either candidate. I also have never seen James Taylor in my life. I didn't know what he looked like until I saw his picture in one of these various oh-so-outraged conservative blogs. Eric Griego came to my door and personally talked to me and asked for my vote and to put one of his signs up in my yard. Most of the people in the district that I talked to say the same.
If it turns out that Eli and the CCP actualy did do something wrong, I have no problem with denouncing it, but as far as I'm concerned until they produce some proof (they only claim some "insider information" at this point) I say this is sour grapes.
Regardless, Eric and Tim Keller would both trounce their opponents in a re-vote so I'm not sure what the point here even is. Eric won by 24 points and Tim by over 30. They're both young, progressive candidates in young, progressive districts who went up against old school incumbents, who for the most part had nothing in common with their districts anymore and were so disengaged that they didn't even realize it.

Even if some sort of slippery "wrongdoing" is discovered, the election should still hold. The numbers clearly show that the elective outcome is legitimate. Also, the actual information/content transmitted to/imparted upon should be a consideration. If the message only served to inform the public of provable recorded facts i.e. voting records, then the election would still be legitimate as a more informed voting public does not constitute corruption.

Your both right, the election results should stand - because no one loses by the large margins that the three incumbents in question lost by only through a mailer.
What I want to know is, are these groups acting through a coordinated effort to support candidates of a certain political persuasion? I was talking with a friend of mine who worked in 501c3, c4 and 527 groups and he told me that if activities of these groups target specific candidates, which they do, and are partisan politically based, which they are, then these organizations are in violation of their 501c3 status and need to worry about ramifications from not only Gary King (should he decide to actually investigate) but the IRS.
