Santa Fean Comptroller Accused of Embezzlement
SANTA FE — A lawsuit alleges the former comptroller of the Santa Fean magazine took nearly $150,000 from the publication over five years.
The lawsuit filed in state District Court here last week accuses Donna Patnode of fraud, embezzlement and breach of fiduciary duty.
It seeks unspecified damages from Patnode who, according to the complaint, was hired in May 2001 and was fired on Jan. 31, 2006.
After Patnode was fired, canceled checks totaling $149,291 were found payable to her, her credit card accounts and her outstanding tax liabilities to the Internal Revenue Service.
A person who answered the telephone at Patnode's house told the Reporter that all of the expense items were cleared with the company's finance director and CEO, and that she was innocent of any wrongdoing.
