Gravatar Hey, Mario. You are right on! Think of sitting on your back porch and figuring your budget. Hon, should we give $1,000 to our Sheriff? How much to our District Attorney? How much to Manny? How much to the Secretary of State? How about Eric Serna, don't forget him and Con Alma. You say, why pay our family's money to any of them? Don't ask! Remember, we get nothing in reurn; we expect nothing in return. jack

Gravatar This rabid liberal agrees Mario. Hey nobody gave me gifts for doing my job. I just got paid. Does a Xmas bonus count as a gift if my work was exemplary?
These gifts are rewards for influence, not performance.
The food thing is a bit tricky. I buy a meal for a friends at the El Camino often. They return the favor next time.
That's it! A lobbiest can only buy meals at the Frontier, Hurricanes or the equivalent in Santa Fe. No $100.00 steaks.

Gravatar I agree! This particular legislation is window dressing--at best. The words "fig leaf" come to mind.

Outlaw gifts. Period. Let us not even have the APPEARANCE of unethical conduct. Outlawing gifts and public financing of elections will go a long way to putting the government back in the hands of the people.

Gravatar Could someone please just put the nail in the coffin already?
Governor Richardson will not be President or Vice-Presdent.
The sooner the media in New Mexico decides to stop covering his bid for the White as if he was running President of New Mexico, and deliver the truth about why Governor Richardson will not be President or Vice-President the sooner New Mexico can go about it's business and end this circus which has occupied government in this state for the last five years.
As the 5th of May approaches may the New Mexico Media allow us to end this unfair occupation...
