I am very happy to see an opponent entering the race. Brandenburg has not worked hard to rid Albuquerque of its crime problem and it is time for a change! The citizens of Albuquerque should be able to feel confident that criminals are being properly punished and that has not been what DA Brandenburg has done.
I have not lived in Albuquerque long, but every day it appears it is becoming a more dangerous place, regardless of what section of town you live in.
When out of town friends ask me about Albuquerque I tell them what a beautiful location it is, but also tell them about the rise in crime recently.
I think the city spends too much time on things such as red light cameras and not enough on home burglary.
Did I imagine it, or wasn't there a news report in the past two days about a store clerk who challenged a robber with a gun, and chased him out of the store and down the street, firing a dozen or so times in the process and wounding the perp. The perp was taken to UNMH. Seems to me like the same legal principle. So will Kari be prosecuting the clerk for attempted murder?
Last night on the news I watched Brandenburg say that people were outraged over this case becuase "they didnt understand it". Well thank you very much but I do understand it. I understand that a twice convicted felon trespassed on Richard's property and threatened him. Yes I understand that Mr. Richard didnt shoot this man in his home or even on his property BUT I still believe he acted in the way that he did to protect his family. So yes DA Brandenburg I do understand this case and I still think it was wrong for the DAs office to prosecute this man!
Anybody know why the Bern. Co. DA doesn't have term limits, but another Bern. Co. office, Probate Judge, does? I don't know about the other Bern. Co. offices: Treasurer, Assessor, Clerk, and Sheriff.
A grand jury understood enough about the case to send it to trial. The Marine knew enough about the case to plead no contest.
He could have agreed to wearing an ankle bracelet, but he didn't. He could have said he learned from this and would not do it again, but he didn't. The Marine told the judge he thought he did nothing wrong. If he felt that way he should taken this to trial, but he didn't.
Listening to talk radio in Albuquerque, I believe conservatives do not believe in the letter of the law. You saw it with Scooter Libby. A case that made it through the grand jury process, then trial, a conviction and then a cry from conservatives for a pardon. You saw it the Border Patrol agents. We hear conservatives scream about we don't need anymore new laws when it comes to DWI's in NM. They say we should just enforce the ones on the books. Yet when we go after people who sell to intoxicated people, conservatives are outraged. We heard it with the red light cameras.
Reading your post about the city prosecuting attorney I am appaled that things are so out of control in Albuquerque. This article struck a personal note because my older son had to recently fight for his life, the life of his fiance' and his property when he was kidnapped, threated with death and the theft of his cars, and motorcycle at gun point by Anthony Martinez who was out on a $2,500. bond from a felony indictment in February, 2008. After an exchange of gun fire my son shot the would be kidnapper, robber and potential murderer. Now he is out again on a paltry $25,000 bail having been charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, assualt with intent to commit a violent felony, and kidnapping. Now he is out on a $25,000 bond and based upon his behavior to date, prepared to commit more violent acts. My son has suffered through this trauma, leaving his job of 9 years, his home, and the break up of his long standing personal relationship due to this terrible event. To date we have not been able to get a response from the prosecuting attorneys offices to exercise our rights and to work to ensure that Mr. Martinez is not able to commit further acts of violence upon anyone. What is it goint to take to get some action in favor of citizens and victims?
