Why are we not surprised about an attempt to conceal the the real purpose of the New Mexico Independent, i.e., the phony notion of having an independent and fair presentation of what goes on in New Mexico politics? Seems like another "movida" to further the liberal agenda. Oh, but of course, such things also happen with the conservatives. Now that's balanced politics!

Gravatar OMG! That commie pinko lefist socialist site actually links HERE on their blogroll!

They must truly be the spawn of satan. I'm so glad that Mario doesn't even mention any of their ideas, or the things they say, but concentrates solely on who they're associated with. Guilt by association, ad hominem attacks, that's the only way to win this war of ideas.

Gravatar I read with great interest your "George Soros Opens Shop in NM" post from earlier today. As the managing editor for the New Mexico
Independent (nmindependent.com) I want you and your readers to know
that our central mission is to live up to our name. Period. Yes,
George Soros is a donor to our parent non-profit, the DC-based Center
for Independent Media. To be precise, he's one of over 70 donors. And
none of this is a secret or a scoop -- it's right there on the CIM Web
site. Read for yourself at newjournalist.org/donate.

I imagine Mario would object to the suggestion that the 2nd
Congressional District GOP campaign of Aubrey Dunn Jr. -- for which
he serves as a spokesman -- is somehow hostage to any one donor. Or
that Dunn's views and his donors' views are one in the same.

Over time I expect that our journalism will speak for itself and
demonstrate that NMI and its staff don't have any partisan agendas. As
with most traditional news outlets, we have a tall firewall between
our news staff and those funders who pay our bills. And we disclose it
all. We'll also clearly mark "news" and "commentary" as separate. If we have an agenda at all it's to marry the best of the
blogosphere with the best of traditional journalism. The end product, we hope, is a news Web site that informs, provokes and in general
contributes to a smarter New Mexico one mouse click at a time.

Gravatar Too much Michael Svage for you Mario. Lay off the conservative radio who can't shut up about George Soros the "boogeyman" under every childs bed. What does soros stand for...oh no we cant talk about issues. This is really a pathetic post, atacking a news outlet without even reading their articles. Everyone look at these scary article titles from the independent NM, "Albuquerque opens new path and bridge, aims to be more bike-friendly ", "Enviros back Udall", "A pie, a dinner, even a birthday bash -- candidates lure money with creativity" please save us from these crazy, leftist, Joseph Stalin clones!!!!

I hope tomorrow you write about how Rupert Murdoch is destroying America with his media monopoly with a clear political agenda. Now that one can actualy be seen.(facts sold seprately)

Gravatar The only thing the New Mexico Independent is going to be independent from IS non-partisan reporting. When lefty Jim Baca puts the NMI on his blogroll all good conservative New Mexicans should take note.

Hi Mario how's the campaign going? I'll be running into you soon.

AHD

Gravatar So Mario, do you find it "disturbing" that Richard Scaife and Rupert Murdoch are media moguls?

Is it "disturbing" to you that the only newspaper left in Albuquerque is dominated by a right-wing editorial board?

Gravatar The journal "right-wing editorial board", HA-HA. If you have ever met with the "editorial board" at the Albuquerque journal you would think otherwise.

The "editorial board" the journal is not right-wing or left-wing, they are pro-journal plain and simple. They will knock anyone down doesn't matter what their politics.

I only buy the journal for the Sunday comics

Gravatar David,

I understand your argument, but at the same time I can see where Mario is coming from. Although there is no reason to wave the "OMG George Soros is invading New Mexico!!1!!11!!!" flag. Other than to rally the right with their favorite boogieman.

If, as media reform advocates on the left like to tell me, someone's personal political views impact their reporting, then Mario has a valid concern. I've been reading the NM Independent and I really enjoy it. That said, the NM Independent does have a reporting and blogroll roster that (not totally, but in large part) trends heavily towards left of center. Where is someone like Jim Scarantino? Or Mark Bralley or Mario himself?

Gravatar Mario's Blog has been listed on the Indepedent blog roll since I first checked out the site last week. I guess Mario missed that. I wonder if he picked up any traffic since the Independents inception.
