This story seems to have passed you by. I have little doubt Mr Iglesias played the good soldier and took one for the team, UNTIL his professional abilities were publicly impugned. However, this story is now about two NM Congressional delegates who MAY have violated the rules of their respective bodies. Rep Wilson is playing it fairly close to the vest. Senator Domenici, when asked by an AP reporter about this matter, was quoted as saying, "I have no idea what he's talking about." A copyrighted story in yesterday's Albuquerque Journal included a letter from Senator Domenici that seems to bring that statement into question. The esteemed Senator now admits to making a phone call to Iglesias. My question for YOU Senator is: Were you lying when you answered the AP reporters questions, or did you lie in the letter published yesterday when you admitted to making the phone call?

Good points, David. I'm sure that many answers will come out in the congressional hearings tomorrow. No matter what was said in the conversations, it is unethical for any congressman to be calling the US attorneys office for any reason. There's a whole other office in the DOJ where congressman can call and get any information they need. Somehting fishy is definently going on here, especially when people start cotradicting their own statements they made just days before. Old age, or corruption?

One would wonder, if the indictments were handed down in Dec or Jan, if Mr. Iglesias wasn't playing politics with the indictments.
Think about it: Patricia Madrid beats Heather Wilson in the election. Patricia goes to congress and proves what an idiot she really is.
2008, David Iglesias just has to show up to defeat Ms. Madrid.
So where are those indictments

Janet Reno fired 93 U.S. Attorneys when Mr. Clinton became pres. while Democrat House leader Rep.Dan Rostenkowski was being probed and later convicted. She said that she wanted her own team. Worked for Mr. Clinton why not Mr. Bush?

John,
EVERY incoming President asks all US Attorneys from the previous administration to resign so they may appoint their own people. Bush did it in 2001. The question is were these people were fired because they were too aggressive prosecuting Republicans, or not aggressive enough prosecuting Democrats? Yes or No? Most of us do not question any President's authority to install his own team. But when you sack the top law enforcement official because you don't like the outcome of his or her political corruption trials that is troubling.

Also, Iglesias had no choice but to keep quiet before the election. His main objective was to stay objective and uninfluenced by anything other than the law. If he would have sped up indictments without having everything in order, they would be a waste. If he would have come out and said Wilson and Domenici called before the election, Wilson probably wouldn’t be in office right now. All he could do was stay right down the middle.
And there is absolutely no reason to attack Madrid personally by calling her an idiot. You know nothing about her. She has one of the most successful AG office in the history of NM, through convictions, time to trial and an assortment of other areas. As did Iglesias, stated in a review done just three months prior to him being politically fired, giving him stellar marks with nothing wrong with his record.
Your basis of argument is expected from a member of the party being backed into a corner. Nothing to do with facts, everything to do with blind following of the status quo and lashing out agaisnt anything that threatens it.

David,
Let me get this straight.... you say "this story is now about two NM Congressional delegates who MAY have violated the rules of their respective bodies.."
And what happened to the fact that David Inglesias failed to get any convictions on Vigil in the first trial and only one in the second? And what happened to the fact that he and his office still have done zip about the concluded FBI investigation into the courthouse corruption case, for, what, eight months now? Impugn him, heck, I'd fire his butt, just like it happened. Please remember, the US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President. If they fail him in any way, political or otherwise, out they go. David Inglesias failed. And now he's out. Perhaps DC will be more careful in what political animal they appoint next.
And for the record, Wilson and Domenici broke Congressional rules, don't doubt it. But Inglesias doesn't deserve to keep his job, either. The story is what the media makes it, but the truth is all three did wrong.
