Americans don't make anything anymore. Creating good paying jobs and having wages keep up with the cost of living is the only way to have a secure economy. Wages have stagnated since the seventies.
When is the last time you bought an actual object made in the USA?
We are in real trouble.
A couple of hundred dollars is not going to bail this economy out of debt. The money spent will go into Chinese products at Walmart and will dissipate like a fart.
Tax cuts for the rich who take their investments off-shore using cheap labor is not going to bail this economy out.
With de-regulation, the Republicans have created a predatory economy fraught with get-rich quick schemes. Instead of focusing on true innovation and production, this nation's wealthy have gotten there with short sighted un-sustainable predation upon the working middle class.
Thanks to Rep economic and social policies This nation has become third world inside a single generation.
well put. while we get all giddy about a silly tax rebate, rome is burning. a lot has changed and the trite "lower taxes" mantra has been rendered irrelevent. if you have money invested in the markets, look at things carefully and be smart. its going to be interesting.
Like President Truman said: “The buck stops here.” So this is President Bush’s fault for not exercising oversight. But we all knew he wouldn’t because he took campaign contributions from the financial, mortgage loan and housing industries. Then he appointed cronies of the industries to relax the regulations on those industries that protect consumers like you and I. Then whammo you have a recession; designed and made by George W. His tax cuts for the wealthy were taken 90% overseas to invest in companies that were taking away American jobs; mainly in China and India. How else could this have turned out? We all need to remember that Bush-Cheney are the culprits and hold them accountable even after their terms. The information on the Reagan trickle down theory is out and it doesn’t work. The best way to recoup your wealth is to vote all Republicans out this go around.
Revenue problems on the Albuquerque budget and to a lesser extent the state budget will happen more frequently as the national recession picks up steam. The unfortunate thing is that New Mexico always lags behind in its recovery.
We cannot make the George W. tax cuts permanent because they backfired in this global economy we are in. We may need another New Deal public works program to rebuild the country. The best way to protect the city revenues and recoup your own personal wealth is to take revenge on those Republican and corporate entities that have gotten us to where we are.
I don't know about all that... last tax refund I spent on a Cannondale bicycle. It says made in USA all over it.
'Course in the land of the Glass House Democrat all we heard in the days that followed was that only the rich benefited from the tax breaks. Guess I must be rich. Guess the guys the guys that make and sell Cannondales must be rich... Then again I am no doubt richer than the turds who sit on barstools all day and contrive malice and slanders and suppose they have some 'economic' expertise.

Wouldn't it be wierd if we had people that don't pay taxes arguing that tax refunds don't work.
Like people who don't do anything, people who are just sitting on their butts biding their time until the government comes along and rescues them with a sinecure.
And the better you can express your contempt for those nasty corporations, the better you chance of getting to the short list for one of them delectable sinecures.
Government employees... has it ever occured to anyone that government employees don't actually pay taxes? Sure, they can point to their paychecks and show a column that indicates withholding and all that, but really isn't all just a shell game? I mean, all of their income originates from the government source, which is really the tax collection...

please... so, cops don't pay taxes? military personnel? fbi agents? how about doctors at the va hospitals- which is a socialied healthcare system exclusively for government employees known as military personnel, active and retired. yeah...
as for people who literally pay no taxes, yes that would be funny. problem is that is a tiny sliver of the population and i don't they are highly politically engaged but they sure make a great straw man.
