Gravatar As someone whose mother was killed by a drunk driver these stories make be sick. Put the man away and take him from his family, before he is allowed to do it to someone else.

Gravatar a 62 year old tax collector... how's that for bias?

Gravatar I'm with Mr Lufkin. He deserves an apology.

There are two different people involved. #1 did wrong - he was driving on a suspended license. The police took him away, as was proper.

#2 did nothing wrong. He was a passenger, and the owner of the car. For all we know there was no way he could have known that he was allowing #1 to drive the car on a suspended license. Yet the police not only towed his car, they simply abandoned him at night in a questionable neighborhood. They made no effort to assist him in staying safe. No ride to a motel, no helping a stranded stranger from out of town, no nothing. That's discourteous at least, and I'd call it worse than discourteous. APD should be kind to apparently innocent bystanders.

Gravatar I agree that it was discourteous, but overall I had the same reaction Mario did when I read the article.

I know a person may not know that their friend or acquaintance has multiple DWI's or a suspended license, but... licenses and registrations for items like cars and guns exist (at least partially) because these items can be dangerous. When Lufkin gave the keys to his car to this other guy, he became more than an innocent bystander.

Should Lufkin receive the apology he demands when he refuses to admit any culpability himself? I don't think so.
