Gravatar How come mullahs are provoking a war

Gravatar Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

Imus has been going off on something similar for weeks now. They're trying to build a state of the art military hospital with private funds. The fact that we need to raise money to do this is sad.

Our brothers and sister are coming home without arms and legs from a war The President invented, and instead of doing anything for them to their family, he signs a bill that gives Alaska $230 million to build a bridge.

And before anyone on the left gets to uppity, the Democrats are just as big of a discrace. They're fighting to do just as little as the President.

Gravatar Ok, signing off as Homer for my previous post was awkward. I didn't realize I was still logged on as that

Gravatar D'oh!

But seriously John, thanks for the info!

Gravatar Hey, I've got an idea... why don't we roll back Preesident Bush's tax cuts and dedicate all that money to providing top notch benefits for the people risking their lives to protect ours? Yeah, everyone on the right views taxes like a vampire views sunlight, but c'mon here... you enjoy the countless benefits and opportunities that come with being an American, shoulder your share of the burden when it comes to providing for those that protect our way of life.

Gravatar A while back I was on a message board arguing with a number of conservitives who were backing the war. Conversation stopped when I suggested they start a pettion to institute a 1% surcharge on all income to be strictly earmarked for our troops. It seems conservitives are only for our troops when it does not cost them anything.

Gravatar Chris, I think that's an unfair assesment of conservatives as a whole. If there's one thing the left and the right have in common it's how their true colors show whenever they're asked to sacrifice anything.

Plus, if people in Hollywood were as concerned with our troops as they are with tsunami victims, the Fund would have all the money they need. They have $10M more to raise. That's half as much as some people get paid to make movies.

That being said, if you're talking about the neo-con shills and cheerleaders, they make me disgustepated too. Halliburton was asked to contribute and they turned them down. Nevermind the fact that the hospital is in San Antonio and Halliburton is a Texas company, who has made more money off of the war than Halliburton?

And don't get me started on Rush encouraging his listeners to pay $50 to "give the gift of his show" to the troops. The only charity the money goes to is his vicodin prescription.

Gravatar Ok, let's take my proposal one step farther... instead of rolling back all of Bush's tax cuts, just roll it back on the top 2% of income earners in the country. I'm talking about people that earn over a million dollars a year. Does it not make sense that those that have prospered so greatly from all that this country offers be asked to pay slightly more to enjoy the continued advantages they have here? Is it taxing the rich more? Absolutely... but not only is it asking for more money from those most able to afford it, but it's asking for those that have reaped the greatest benefits to acknowledge this and pick up a little bit more of the responsibility.
Or enlist their sons and daughters so that it's not only those who can't find a better job fighting and dying over there.

(Ok, that last comment was a little rough. I full well know that there are plenty of people serving in the armed forces that are doing so by choice, not lack of economic opportunity. However, I also know that substantially more recruits come from economically depressed areas than from well-off neighborhoods. To those with other options that are just doing what they think is right by serving, thank you.)

Perhaps you are right to say it is not all conwervites. However it is certianly true for all those of any party who who voted for and continue to support tax cuts.
