Man, That all really sucks, being punished for doing well looking after your kid... That bites.
How about giving them a lowdown on the regular times Hanlon has come a cropper with the levels, you have enough diary entries about that. You could give them instances of when he has had particularily high levels and that.
Honey dont worry about the language, you are passionate and you care about your son and your friends and all the happenings in your blog and thats why we love you and come back to the blog... for your potty mouth... lol
ps... hey get me some pot!!

Fuck Them!! (I don't use that language much on my own blog, but it is REALLY called for in this situation).
Now how did all those adults I know get approved for pumps when you guys are having such a hard time? Does every diabetic go through this? I thought going on the pump or not was going to be MY choice...
Martha, if they end up saying no, you contact me, and we will organize the ugliest MEDIA BLITZ that insurance company has ever seen. Which HMO is it, btw?
Hang in there!

Jesus H Christ. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! I cannot believe they are putting you through this ringer. Just to get your son on the BEST POSSIBLE REGIMEN to manage his disease!
I was warned that we might have to go through this last December when we sought approval for Joseph's pump, but it never happened. We never even had to send them food logs! I just assumed that with kids the process was probably a no-brainer.
Guess I was wrong.
Martha, I am so sorry you have to go through this. The day-to-day management is difficult enough, but to have to suffer the fools who think that your son should stay on shots, to have to prepare for (and possibly) battle to get him the pump is just INSANE!
If there is anything I can do (i.e, more info about our approval process, or anything at all), please let me know.

Technically, insurance companies require that diabetics have frequently high readings and/or hypoglycemic episodes and cannot control their numbers. Because your son's A1C's are so fantastic, they're giving you a hard time because they don't want to shell out the dough.
For those who do so well on shots, their endos fudge the forms a bit and say that the patient can't control numbers etc.
Call the supervisors, higher ups, whoever and complain, complain, complain.
You can also make a case that being on the pump is healthier for your son because it mimics the workings of a non-diabetic's pancreas.
Don't let this come to rest. Fight it until you get that pump. I'm really sorry that this isn't going smoothly for you.
I have a very strong feeling however that the insurance company will come through and issue the pump to your son. I doubt that they will withhold it.

Oh, man, I understand your anger it makes pisses me off just reading about it. Yes, call the attorney, call the reporter, make yourself such a pain in the ass the they'll give you the pump just to make you go away. It' s the squeaky wheel that gets the grease,.
By the way, you're a fantastic advocate for your son.

You have done all the right things. Insurance companies are the most disgusting examples of corporate greed.
My girlfriend just got off the phone with her new carrier regarding pump supplies. They have given her THREE different answers on three different days, and (independently) THREE different pump supplies companies that they are (or, I guess for at least two, are not) sponsors of coverage. It's disturbing. They're liars who claim zero liability on anything in your plan, anything in your health's interest, and anything their employees say.
Ok, this was supposed to be about you. Sorry. You sound like a wonderful mother, and you really are doing all the right things. If you ever want to sue Humana, I would love to help you find others who have been wronged. I can't understand how this type of business can be legal. If a doctor did what these companies do, he or she would be sued for malpractice. If you or I did the same thing, we'd be put in jail for murder.
