See... I got chills just reading about this... And I feel exactly the same way about Anne LaMott that you do.
In fact, once, last year, I was upset and worried about something and I couldn't sleep, and I was tossing and turning, and I was thinking to myself "there is not one person, not one single person in the whole wide world who understands exactly how I feel right now" and then I thought, "Yes, there is. There is one person, and that person is Anne LaMott."
Just promise that if you ever see her again, you'll tell her I said hi too.
(and no, I wouldn't have mentioned that I was a writer either... if we can't still have our literary idols then what is left to us?)
Love her ...she came to speak at Vromans...she's fab in person...

I was in Long's yesterday, and told this wonderful cashier lady whom I always like talking with that i'd just come back from the first leg of a book tour.
We don't know each other's names, but I just dig this woman, and have chatted with her in odd bits for about four years now.
She looked at me and said "Oh, I have a good friend who's a writer. She's done a lot of books."
I asked her who, and she said "Anne Lamott," and then just gave me her wonderful grin.
So I said "Your friend's books have saved my life AND my mind on more than one occasion, and I totally worship her. Just so you know."
She just smiled that Mona Buddha smile again and nodded.
I love this lady, even though I don't know her name.
And Konrath would've been wrong. But we knew that.
Oh how wonderful to meet Anne Lamott! I'm VERY jealous!
Hey Martha- I love Anne Lamott too. It's crazy that there are actually "normal" christians out there who lead "normal" imperfect lives like the rest of us. Sigh. Very jealous.
But hey, if you liked her books, you should definitely check out Don Miller's book "Blue Like Jazz." He's been called Anne Lamott with testosterone. 
It's soooo good. Please post your thoughts if you ever get around to reading it.
