$\"Gravatar\"$ It may be better known than what was mentioned in the list, but because of how nice it is, Bluetooth connectivity should also be included. With Bluetooth turned on, you can link Address Book with a Bluetooth enabled phone. Doing so allows you to dial out from address book by right (context) clicking on a phone number. Also, while linked, any incoming calls to your phone show up on your screen with the options to answer, send a busy signal or even log the call. When you log the call, it adds the most recent date and time contacted to that contact's note section.

$\"Gravatar\"$ Adding photos to AddressBook contacts is also worth the effort. The photos show up in Mail and add a really nice touch to the look and feel. It's not terribly helpful, but very nice.

Also, the photo can be included when printing lists of contact. Try doing that with MS Outlook!

$\"Gravatar\"$ OK, so I have Address Book and iChat running. None of the people who are currently on iChat are showing any dots in Address Book. Do they have to be using a .Mac ID or does this supposedly work with AIM screen names as well. I can't seem to find anything in Address Book or iChat preferences to set, nor anything in the menus to \"turn on\" this feature.

What's up with that?

$\"Gravatar\"$ Regarding your advertisement about PDF ocnversion, Macs let you export as PDF from Mail anyway in the \"Print\" menu, and if you want to convert a Word document to PDF, well, there was no reason to buy Microsoft Office to begin with! Just use NeoOffice (the Aqua build of the Free/Libre and Open Source OpenOffice) as your office suite. It can save in Open Document Format (smaller file sizes than Microsoft Office and being an open standard makes it permanently future-proof) or in Microsoft Office format or export PDFs.

What I most wanted to learn was how, when printing, to be able to select only personal addresses or only work addresses for mailing - this is a real pain because both addresses show up. Any \"HINTS\" for this? Also, I have never been able to get it to combine master name and spouse as you and your reference indicate, and I would surely like to do so. I have latest version from Apple. Thanks for any further help you may provide.

$\"Gravatar\"$ I find it astonishing that Address Book seems so sophisticated about printing labels, yet Apple will not allow the user to customize the fields on the label.

Panther only allows 3 lines of text... and Leopard has finally added a feature to also print the 'company' field!

AMAZING! WHAT kind of businesses does Apple imagine are using their wonderful software, that they only require 3 lines in an address? It's great for sending Xmas cards to family & friends... not so great when trying to run an actual business.

I also note that neither Pages nor Numbers has a database application! Com'on Apple... get real! Is this some deal with Microsoft to require users to buy Microsoft Office?

I've been using the Appleworks database program for years, (which is a total clunk-fest of inefficiency), but keep praying Apple will apply some of it's genius to the software.

p.s. There is no future planned for Appleworks... no database in Pages or Numbers... I'm not sure WHAT I can do after this.

Ideally I think Mail and Address Book ought to be beefed up into a bona fide word processing program. That way most users could carry on seamlessly from their online Mail to letters and labeling and documents on paper.

Just my humble opinion...

$\"Gravatar\"$ Address book, I like the interface, but having put most of my world in it, I find it doesn't export to word at all well, and the printing options are too limited, the pocket address book is a nightmare to print and cut out and seems to work backwards, so the indented pages are the wrong way round.

It may be fine for digital software (Plaxo/vcards/pdf) sharing, but for a paper back up print out, it's bad. I doesn't export to a simple word doc which you can then edit in columns to an A4 printer. I pasted all my contacts back into word in the end and printed that. I don't like the list layout and not enough choice. Address book should be a much more sophisticated programme I think. Same with ical, more word space too. I am and like OSX.4.11 Leopard has been designed to exclude buyers of very expensive recent older software like Quark which then cannot be upgraded without more expense.

Even putting something in quotes, like \"Joe Smith\" doesn't limit the search. I like the way the latest iTunes allows you to select title/artist/album right from the search box.

$\"Gravatar\"$ Having more than three lines in an address is super easy -- just use a soft return (shift+return) in the address line. You can have as many lines as you want.

I love this app, but I want it to share just certain groups, not my whole database. If someone comes out with a patch that can do this, I will buy it right away.

Is there ANY WAY to display both the person's Name AND company at the same time? This feature is so basic it shouldn't even be called a feature - it should just BE. Having an enormous list of names is just bad design. Yes, I can drag people into a group, to separate 'work' people from my 'personal' addresses, but why should I have to do that? Additionally or alternatively why can't Address Book have a nice color coding like the Apple Finder? All my Personal addresses could be green and Work addresses could be Orange....or whatever. Truly Outlook and Entourage handle addresses far better.

Within that company I have each contact's name and e-mail address.

When I compose and e-mail and drag and drop the name of the group, only the first contact is brought over.

I want to be able to do mass e-mails easily and thought I was on the right track.

$\"Gravatar\"$ My father has Mac X and uses email and Safari, but is still dependent on an old fashioned paper address book. Since he will only write in pen, the book is littered with old addresses. I would love to help him use his Mac address function by doing all the data entry, but am not sure that it would print out a report that looks like a traditional address book. Worst of all, we live in separate towns, and I am a PC, so I know little about Mac's address book talents.

Bottom line: My father is over 80 and needs a paper address book that can be populated digitally.

In order to get Spotlight search on my contacts in Address Book, I have to control-click on the contact. I see no cog icon. There is a \"Spotlight: address\" menu item under the Edit menu.

$\"Gravatar\"$ I've been printing out my address book from an Appleworks database for years and I'm just grappling with Address Book but perhaps this would help. I export my records from Appleworks list view as text into Excel columns, and then set up a Word mail merge so I get the addresses etc just as I want for a Filofax, and print on filofax paper - even double sided! It takes time but it looks great and is so useful. I actually page number it and put in blank pages where I need for the AB-CD filofax dividers. Perhaps I'm re-inventing the wheel but I had to find a way to do it. TIP - print it a bit at a time, as such small paper can mis-feed and you end up with the duplexing going wrong. As I said, it does take time!

The Birthday's can be automatically displayed on iCal which is great.

I currently add the second spouse and any children in as an 'Anniversary' field and rename it after the person.

BUT the 'Anniversary' fields do not link up to the iCal so if I want more than just the first spouse's birthday I must then manually input them into iCal seperately.

Surely it must be possible to have more than one 'Birthday' field per contact or to link the 'Anniversary' fields up to ical?

I'm fed up with having to add the other birthdays or have a repeated contact card with just a different name for each member of one household!?

Is this possible???

Printing: In the print dialog box look under the \"styles\" pull-down

For specifying which address to use in a group (snail or email), look under the Edit menu for \"edit distribution list\".

Email: in Mail, type the name of the group in the address field. It will enter every member and you can add or delete at that point.
