$\"Gravatar\"$ My favourite function is the ability to convert file formats very quickly. I use Preview to view PNGs and resave them as JPGs without the need to open something cumbersome like Photoshop for example.

$\"Gravatar\"$ In slide mode, \"I\" shows the index page, where you can use the arrow keys to navigate through the images and the enter key to display the selected one full screen. Pressing \"Esc\" takes you out of the slideshow.

$\"Gravatar\"$ Technically Preview doesn't resize, but there's a way around that. Use the zoom in/out buttons to get your image to the size you want it. Then press Command-Shift-4 to enable the screenshot selector. Drag a box around the image, and a new, resized image should appear on your desktop.

In terms of saving, I'm not sure what your problem is. When you have a file open, choosing Save As from the File menu and clicking save should save the file. I'm not sure why it wouldn't...

$\"Gravatar\"$ Preview.app does indeed have the capability to resize images, but it's not in any of the menus. You can access it, though, through Automator.

$\"Gravatar\"$ My pdfs always open in a slightly shrunken view, with a grey border around them. I have to hit the \"actual size\" button every time. I've been through all the prefs to change this, but they never seem to stick. What am I missing?

And on that subject, is there a setting to make them always open about 20 per cent larger than normal?
