Leopard 10.5.3

I don't want a login screen background image AT ALL.

How do I do that?

My assumption is that a login screen background image slows down the time it takes my MacBook(shipped with Leopard) to boot to the login screen since that background image, I presume, must load into memory before it can display.

If my assumption is correct I would much rather have my MacBook boot to the login screen faster by not having a background image.

How do I do that?

the only way to speed things up in OS X, if you encounter speed problems using background-images, is to keep all used background-images small.

i would get rid of the login-background by making a solid grey->almost black wallpaper.
it would be a lot smaller than Apple's, load much faster and look like, well - \"no wallpaper around here\".

the same goes for the finder: if you use a background-image, you'll notice real speed-ups loading the window's contents, by using 100 KB backgrounds instead of 1MB, for example.
