And hear I would have thought you would have picked St. Lawrence, for his sense of humor.

Hey, it's your blog, you can have whom ever you like. I didn't know St. Thomas More was a jokester, and he told a joke moments before he died? Is that where the saying "Leave'm laughing" came from?

Tom - Other than the story you mention, I don't know too much about St. Lawrence. St. Phillip Neri is supposed to another one who liked a good laugh.
Lucy-Yeah he and his family even wrote a book of fart jokes. I'm not really into that sort of thing, I have to say. Overall, TM was pretty good natured. And, he used to counsel people who were depressed and/or suicidal. In fact, on the way to be executed, this one guy TM had counseled actually stopped him and told him he was feeling depressed and suicidal again. TM was such a good sport, he said he would pray for him. Most people would be like, "You're depressed? I'm about to get my head cut off." After St. Thomas More was killed, the depressed guy reported that he never had problems with depression again. So, the prayers of a righteous, dying man availeth much, I guess.

St. Philip Neri? Oh, you just earned the St. Philip Neri song! He was the patron of my parish and school.
Saint Philip Neri, our Patron Saint
Of Parish, School and Home
Your Charity and Zeal made you
The Second Apostle of Rome
As once you walked among the young
Your heart was all afire
And now we beg your heavenly aid
To Grant us our desire!
Saint Philip from your throne above
Look down on us with love!

Hi Maureen
Now I am all jealous. I don't get to have a patron saint of my blog because I didn't think to name it catholicnews.org, episcopaleannews.org or anglicannews.org. I could name it scientologynews.org and spend my days criticizing Brooke Sheilds but they don't have any saints, just Tom Cruise and he is kinda irritating lately.
Maureen, have you considered Roger Moore.?

St. Theresa of Avila had an excellent sense of humor too. She was so funny she could be sarcastic with God and get away with it.

Tom - Thanks for the song. What's the tune, btw?
Cycles - Don't be jealous. Have you thought about calling your site kabala.org? You could then make Ashton Kutcher your patron saint. That is sure to send your Technorati rating right through the roof. Hmmm, Roger Moore...I can't say I am a big James Bond fan. Mary Tyler Moore might be a better fit for this blog.
Al - Thanks for dropping by and posting. I posted you 1984-inspired satire on the blog. Thanks for sending it. It was very clever.
Rick - Yeah, my husband tells me St. Teresa of Avila is the saint he most associates me with. I do enjoy some of her quotes, although I haven't read her autobiography yet.
God bless, Maureen

i am hoping my sarcasm with God will be met with the same grace that st. teresa of avila's was, but this response is not about that.
i applaud your choice of dorothy day. gal after my own heart. as well as your decision for st. thomas more. he was head and shoulders above the rest.

m2 - LOL...well, maybe he is just shoulders above the rest now. Hey, have you read "The Long Loneliness"? I am thinking about reading that.
Der Tommissar - what is your email address? I have a question for you...email me at maureenscoolblogatyahoo.com.
God bless, Maureen

Hi Maureen.
Re Roger Moore.
Oops, forgot you probably didn't get to see Roger Moore in the show he did before James Bond. He played Simon Templar in a British show called The Saint.

Don't forget that the process for the beatification of the Servant of God, Dorothy Day, is open, and, God willing, it will end with good news for those who love her, for the greater glory of Christ.

Hey Cycles,
I forgot about that show. I saw reruns of it when I was little and we lived in Germany.
On a different note, when are you going to write your story about the Great Blogger Flag Wars?
God bless, Maureen

Hey Maureen.
I'm a little afraid to tackle such a gruesome story. People are going to be clicking their fingers raw in what may be a truly horrific moment in the history of blogging. The emotional carnage of all those people taking offence at each others blogs will be more disturbing than the sight of a partially exposed body part in a super bowl half time show. There will be flag-bots, flag clicking parties and flag mercenaries who will sell their clicks to the highest bidder. The US FCC will sanction me for not maintaining a G rating and the Toronto political correctness police will chastise me for my insensitivity towards the objectification of bloggers.

Maureen, we share a brain; when I read what M2 wrote about St. Thomas More, I thought about posting a similar remark. I'm sure the Saint had a hearty chuckle over it.
To everyone: did St. Teresa of Avila really say "God and chocolate is better than just God"? Can you give me the source, if you know it?

Al, I just read your "1984, First Draft", Great stuff! As a convert to Catholicism who went through a brief but disastrous membership in the prosperity cult, I found it totally insightful. Keep up the good work.
