Gravatar Well I can't say I wish them luck, but I bet they would be successful if they tried hitting up the Episcopalians.

Gravatar Rick,

Episcopalians have saints? I didn't know that. It's getting more difficult to make fun of things these days.

Maureen

Gravatar Well, they're not exactly saints per se. After all, that might appear like they're casting judgement on what is good and evil, and they can't have that. Somebody's feelings might get hurt or something. If I understand it correctly, they incorporate them into their version of the lectionary, like we do with saints. I could be mistaken though...

Gravatar Ever since Whoopie said it in Sister Act, my kids have joked that the Beatles were saints. John Paul George, and Ringo. Ringo being the lesser known and least liked saint. He will probably out live them all. John of course was martered. George just died because he wanted too. Two down one to go for Ringo.

Gravatar I kid you not, I was looking on Google images for a heart image on Valentines day and found a sacred heart with the face of Elvis. I just about screamed loud enough to break a hole in the ozone.

Can't they just leave us alone? I ask you?

Gravatar Whoever started this campaign is a flaming idiot and deserves to be dragged out into the street and shot. Twice.

The reason someone has to meet specific criteria to be beatified and canonized is that, by definition, a saint is any soul in heaven. A Saint (with a capital "S") is a soul that we KNOW is in heaven.

"It's so unfair that the Vatican only considers Catholics for their elite club."

That is undoubtedly one of the most asinine statements I've ever heard, and I've listened to a good deal of Rush Limbaugh's tirades, so that's saying something. Obviously, if someone isn't a Catholic, we can't be sure whether or not they're in heaven. End of story.

Gravatar Two seconds after I read that, I read that the blog is made entirely of satire, so now I feel like a bit of an idiot. Pay no heed to the man behind the curtain.

As long as we're picking people that should be fake saints, I nominate Abbie Hoffman.

Gravatar Hey Jason,

It happens a lot. I think it makes the blog more fun, though. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the link!

God bless, Maureen

CATHOLIC SOCCER CAMPS LAUNCHES AT FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY

March 11, 2008 – Steubenville, Ohio: An entirely Catholic-oriented soccer camp operation has just been launched and it will take place this summer on the campus of Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio. The organizing body, Catholic Soccer Camps (“CSC”), is the first soccer camp of its kind that combines high-level soccer instruction with top-notch Catholic ministry. It is operated in a collaborative relationship between the CSC, the World Youth Soccer Academy (formerly at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida), The Soccer Academy television show, and the Franciscan University of Steubenville. The CSC will run two weeks of camps this summer, from July 6th to the 11th and from July 13th to the 18th, for male and female campers between the ages of eight ( and seventeen (17).

The CSC is uniquely Catholic in both structure and design. First and foremost, it shares Catholic values with its young adult campers through daily mass, worship & praise, and confession. It is truly a sharing of the Sacraments. This sharing takes place in connection with the wonderful Franciscan friars at the University, as well in conjunction with the amazing and devout student-athletes that play soccer for Franciscan. Next, it is a top-level, competitive international soccer camp. It features some top professional players and coaches from Italy, Brazil and the U.S., and it espouses an intense work ethic that is second to none. Massimo Carli, a former player with Trento in the Italian leagues and a current standout select coach in the Italian Serie D, will be on hand to train players and teach an Italian system of play. He will be joined by Ricardo Perrotta, a former Brazilian National Team player for Brazil's University Squad, Patrick Doering, the Head Coach of Franciscan University's Women's Varsity Team, and Antonio Soave, the Head Coach of Franciscan University's Men's Varsity Team. Antonio is also a former high school All-American who went on to train with Lazio in the Italian Serie A, and was a former coach and manager in the USISL with the Detroit Wheels and the Grand Rapids Explosion. He is also the on-camera host for “The Soccer Academy” television show.

Also joining the team of extraordinary coaches is Eddie Gavin of the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer (MLS), and Luke Vercollone of the Charleston Battery (USL) and the New England Revolution in the MLS. Both Eddie and Luke are devout Catholics; they are also featured speakers with theCatholic Athletes for Christ (“CAC”) and they tour the country speaking about their faith as it pertains to their careers in professional soccer.

Exceptional music ministry for the soccer camps will be provided by Bob Rice, a nationally-known Catholic musician, songwriter, presenter and comedian. Bob, who has released
