Check out Regenesis, G-Spot, Monday Night Report. These are all great shows. Also, I thinkone of the reasons you think a lot of these shows aren't great is cuz you aren't the targeted audience. Instant Star and Degrassi do wonderfully with Kids. Corner Gas is a smash in the parts of Canada that aren' Toronto. Think of Canada as a nation. Not a city.

Good questions for sure. Here's the thing. There's a number of reasons you aren't seeing Canada reach it's full potential in Canadian TV film. A major one is funding. TV in Canada just like in the UK is partially dependent on goverment funds to help with some of the budget of shows. Unfortunately there are constant cut backs to these in addition provinces that give tax breaks to encourage productions don't make them in a way that actually encourages local productions. They mostly encourage other countries to come and use our crews( but not necessarily our writers actors and directors) so while we have great crews there is a lack of opportunities to gain experience for everyone else. And as Networks and producers keep demanding "faster cheaper' they tend ot make more reality type shows etc rather than drams movies or comedies further gettign rid of opportunites and forcing many people in the biz to go where there are jobs ( i.e. the U.S. or Europe) which drains the talent. Like anythign it's abotu bucks. If cnadians want to see better stuff they have to ask and then producers and networks will think "hey there is money in this" and will start to supply it.
In theory anyway. ( I'm an animator. We travel all over the world to get gigs..yet why is there noth these opportunities in Canada despite the demand for out skills?)
