Gravatar Mike,

Excellent job on your CNBC interview debate on the FDA bill.

Gravatar OMG.....I haven't even read the piece yet, but IF Bill G is praising your interview on it..............I can just imagine.

Speaking of the FDA; here's yet another argument against allowing them to regulate ANYTHING, to hell with cigarettes:

And this is the same FDA that TC thinks CAN regulate tobacco? PUHLEEEEZE

Lawmakers decry FDA plans to close labs

WASHINGTON - Importers have learned to evade close federal scrutiny of the food they ship into the United States, putting consumers at increasing risk, congressional investigators said Tuesday.

Lawmakers also criticized the Food and Drug Administration's plan to close half of its laboratories. They called that idea misguided and questioned whether it would save money and enhance the agency's ability to target unsafe food, as FDA commissioner Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach said it would.

Gravatar OH, Bill..........my condolences on the blow you took with your state ban not going through. You poor dear, you must be so worked up over that.

Please, tell us again how wonderful and powerful a force you are in getting bans passed?

Yes, this is completely sarcastic, in light of your holier than thou stand and constant self-aggrandization; I find it amusing you can't accomplish squat in your own home.

Gravatar Does the General Public really believe that every drug approved by the FDA will not harm them in any way,via side effects. If they do,then your arguement is fully justified Dr Siegel,i don't believe for one minute that they do.Look at the numerous medical forums on the internet where you can either find other peoples experiences of taking a particular drug,or a more in depth view of the drug in question.

Gravatar Doctor Siegel,

This is your lucky day---Bill likes you today. Gee how lucky can a guy get?

Bill, enjoy smouldering until the fall when you can begin your attempt at turning our country into a fascist utopia.

BTW you never answered my question about how much you owe as a former smoker when it comes time to pay these taxes 'for the children' .
.

Gravatar Michael S. - Nice job presenting your position -- too bad you get such a short time for such complex issues. But, did you mean to say 3900 "toxins"? Not poking at you -- just curious.

Gravatar I think this bill has been delayed by the slumber party last night:

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2.../ ap3927199.html

???

Gravatar Well, Doc, you certainly *looked* better than the Burns guy! Ah, that clean living does pay-off, doesn't it. And you're back on a first name basis with Bill. Feel warm and fuzzy? (Fair Warning: Don't get too cuddly until he's had his fangs removed.)

Seriously, nice interview, you made your point, but you didn't say anything about the clause you mentioned yesterday. You commented that the cigarette companies will be able to *rightfully* say that their products are FDA approved--but that's no longer true, is it? Not with the new clause added to the bill. Correct, or am I misunderstanding something?

Gravatar GDF: But, did you mean to say 3900 "toxins"? Not poking at you -- just curious.

I noticed that, too. (Great minds...) IIRC, the list of 4000 included things like aloe and a quite a few harmless herb-y type things.

Gravatar does anybody know if there is any language included in the FDA bill that would require? suggest? prohibit? a doctor's prescription for the purchase of tobacco products? or is that the next step in this very slippery slope? i don't trust these asshats as far as i can throw them!

Well yes, it's the kind of statement that 'kinda lingers' isn't it - so you weren't the only ones to spot it.

I doubt that it was a slip of the tongue, though. We had another example of this when the "wee pretendy parliament" in Scotland voted for its own vision of hell (smoking ban), their Health Minister Mr Andy Kerr (otherwise known as 'Juan' - think about it ) was interviewed on TV and declared that "there are 4,000 carcinogens in cigarette smoke"!

It's funny how often anti-smokers have one of those "oops, I didn't mean to say that" moments - and how they are never challenged by the half-wit interviewers - isn't it?

It's all part of the act.

Or just call me cynical!

.

Gravatar Furthermore, until someone produces a list, it is a false statement to say that there are 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke.

Even the list the Doc produced (under duress) came nowhere near naming 4,000 chemicals - and those with no name can't possibly count, surely?

But even if there were 4,000, to argue that the FDA would aim to remove 100, leaving 3,900 is totally facile and sensationalist. If FDA were to suggest such a thing, surely they would identify the real proven carcinogens, and/or real proven toxins, wouldn't they? So I would venture to suggest that a number around 100 ought to be more than adequate; leaving '3,900' chemicals - most of which can't be named and exist in pretty well undetectable proportions.

Really, if this is the sort of thing is that passes for intelligent 'scientific' debate in the US media, then the FDA are going to have a field day.

Sorry Doc, I found your rhetoric was unconvincing - and riddled with typical anti-smoker hyperbole.

Gravatar ps What's happened to Harry?

He hasn't posted for weeks and I'm beginning to miss the old bugger!

Gravatar Brian Bond asks...'ps What's happened to Harry?'

I have been wondering the same thing. Given the surreal track this blog has taken in the past several weeks, maybe he'd just had enough. Sad 'cause I miss his voice as well.

Gravatar Harry,

I know I told you we weren't in Kansas anymore, but where the heck did you end up?

Gravatar Round about the time our illustrious host blew his smokescreen cover on that fateful Sunday.Ever since that day,we still haven't seen sight nor sound of those 220 bodies.Ah ha that's probably why we haven't heard from them, they're supposed to be dead ,its the 16 million who are suffering from tobacco triggered asthma.Did that happen on the same Sunday or was it the Monday ?

Gravatar Brian is it true "Juan" is a Merchant Banker ?

The PA Legislature will enact and Governor Rendell sign smokefree workpalace law in the fall.

The PA Senate's rejection of the House approved bill just delayed final legislative approval by several months, and will result in 98% (instead of 99%) of workers in PA having a smokefree workplace by the end of the year.

Gravatar Bill----'The PA Legislature will enact and Governor Rendell sign smokefree workpalace law in the fall'

Like I said Bill---then PA will join the Fascist Utopia you dream of.
Little little man, with a very small life.

Gravatar Bill, you never responded to how much the poor deserve having your bootstrapped foot stomping down them. What right you have to force your way of life on a group that doesn't get free money like you do...
