Adam that is truely amazing. I have been going through this thinking for the past two weeks, I will write about it later this week or next. I also want to help the homeless in some way. I have been looking at my life and thinking truthfully what I want out of it and now I am writing down my goals, mission, and vision in life and am going to do the same for my business. Like you said, helping yourself and not helping others is truely a crime.
Awesome Oaks - glad to hear I'm not alone. Hopefully we'll find that there are more entrepreneurs like us out there. I really do think that's the case - just that people get side tracked trying to get rich or accomplish other things...it's easy to lose focus.
Wow. Adam that was truly a heart felt posting. I can relate to many of the things that you talk about. The first is talking about giving back. I think that you have a much bigger heart than me. I have the tendency to fall into the make myself better and then I'll help others trap. Sometimes, I feel like my own ego will at times consume me before I make the latter happen.
Second is the fear of dying young. I can somewhat relate to what you are saying. I honestly look at the heroes that I admire, and I see that they have all died young. Alexander the Great, Jesus Christ, Eva Peron, Aaliyah, and Tony Montana. I see all these figures having something in common. They dreamed bigger than they most ever dare. I see that same quality in myself, and sometimes I ask God if I am destined for the same fate. There is some truth to the phrase that the good die young. All I can say is that I try to give 110% of myself everyday. Put it all on the line so that when I take my last breathe I will be a legend. I think that the greatest gift that any of us can leave behind is an inspiration for someone to follow.

I know exactly how you feel, except that I am probably a little bit more concerned about the welfare of animals than I am with humans. Well, whatever floats my boat, I suppose - the point is, every time I go to bed, I wish there was something that I could do for all the homeless animals out there as well as animals suffering from cruelty and abuse (ranging from sea whales to cats and dogs).
Incidentially, one of the reasons why I want to set up my own online business is to have enough money to, well, change the world for the better. I, too, sometimes fear dying too early - but the fact of the matter is, death is something that comes to all of us. At the end of the day, dying is not our choice - but what we can choose is what we do with the time that we do have. It is something that I have come to realise and accept, and, at the end of the day, I have also come to live with it. Sure, I might die tomorrow for all I know - but matters the most is that right now, at this very moment, I am alive and I have the potential - though not yet the ability - to make the world a better place. Therefore, if I am serious about it, then it is my responsibility to keep pushing every single day of my life, even though I know that every day might be the last.
One thing that I have come to believe is that there's no point in fearing things that are outside my control. I will die one day, and there's nothing I can do about it - but I can do something during the time that I do live. It's a bit of a deterministic attitude, but it has helped me overcome the fear of dying too early.
Wow guys - thanks for the heartfelt responses. I know it's tough to talk about this stuff, but I think in the end it makes us all better for seeing the "good" in humanity. Most of us are intrinsically drawn to some higher calling, and as YE's I hope a bunch of us follow it and use our skills to help the needy people (and animals) out there.
