ugh... I already watch too many shows... and have consciously avoided Friday Night Lights as a result...

But now I might have to try it. Damn you!

One show that you should be watching too is Battlestar Galactica. Sounds completely nerdy. But I think the way you described FNL applies to BG as well-- the backdrop is science fiction, but the show is really about the people's relationships and larger issues like religion and freedom.
