How lovely and insightful this was. Thanks, Mark. You did such a marvelous job of describing a wise and quiet kind of life that seems to be slipping away these days. I fear we will all be bereft without it and never know what we missed.
I've just spent a few hours reading the blogs of 30-somethings intent on sex, jobs and parties. What a relief to find yours.

Gulp. This sounds almost identical to my grandparents who were as much as my parents as my mother and father were.
I miss their grace and wisdom. There is just something essential and deep water about them.
This is beautifully written. Thank you for taking me back to a place like I grew up in.
