Unfortunately you make sweeping statements that do not bear scutiny. Most Americans do not oppose torture, especially to individuals that violate the laws of civilization. Who would oppose torture if it meant a nuclear weapon would detonate without its use?

Second, the proper treatment of illegal combatants is summary exectuion. This is the penalty for waging wars in violation of the Convention which neither the Tailiban nor Al Queda either follow nor subscribe to.
We should threaten each and every one of these individuals with death followed by burial inside a pig. Lets see what happens and how many jihaddies are ready to volunteer. The British and Americans used these tactics both in India and the Phillippines with success.
