Gravatar I honestly think that a job is only a measure of certain skills. The person can follow orders, persevere through tough times and work in a certain kind of team.

Having been in the army, I wouldn't equate army experience with anything more than that on the surface. Obviously it's past experience so is worth investigating, but it's really not worth a lot to me.

There are simply too many people in the army who are ignorant and excel purely because they can keep their heads down and follow orders.

Great training? Sure. But I wouldn't use it as a metric of skill.

Gravatar Jeremy, I don't understand. Dave's point is that combat soldiers are forced to make so many serious and complicated decisions that they have an extremely accelerated learning curve. So when it comes to making a hiring choice between one of these guys and a civilian it's like comparing someone who runs 15 miles a day to a 2-mile-a-day jogger.
