This question is a toughy because even though it's a good one you never know how your evaluators are going to take it. Some might see an error and say we don't want a guy whose made this mistake.

All in all, though, I'd say that your advice is correct. Essentially, what you are telling the interviewee to do is take a lesson from politicians and address a slightly different question.

Namely, don't look for random mistakes in her past but focus on lessons that are relevant to this job in particular.

That way you can recast your answer to show that you know what's required to do this job use your errors and lessons learned as evidence of your qualifications.

At any rate, someone who claims to have made no errors when asked bluntly about them, is bound to seem shallow if only because he expects us to believe it.
