It sounds like the tests were given right after the rejection...so it's not obvious whether there is any lasting effect.
Also, this was not simple rejection, but rejection worded in such a way as to do maximum harm to the individual's self-concept. Very different from "sorry, you didn't get the job" or even, "sorry, you're fired."

Dave, I like your attention to detail but I think that you are dismissing the effects of a job rejection too easily. It would seem easy for one's ego to be affected by a turndown. Depends a lot on the person, I guess. Some people get rejected by a girl (or guy) and just move on too the next one. For others it is an earth-shattering experience.
