Jermey Rifkin in his completely awful book "the end of work" touted France's 35 hour work week as a briliant move.
Typically this solution is put forward by people with no understanding of economics and who only see economies as being able to create a finite number of jobs.
Many so called "neo-cons" called the French experiment idiotic.
Now we know who was right er.. correct.

The French, and the other Europeans have the idea of unemployment backwards. They have to de-regulate employment and limit the power of the unions.
