I always have the Canada/US GDP and growth argument with some lefty friends. It's amazing how some just take the 6 o'clock news at their word, and don't do any research into the actual figures which underlie the assertiions.

GDP growth is one thing (although i'm pretty sure if you looked at a 3 year moving average Canadian GDP would still be higher), but Unemployment figure comparison between canada and the US can be misleading.
There is a difference of policy between the countries that leads to Americans having more jobs - while canadians have *relatively* higher paying jobs.
Among economists, it's generally accepted that Canada has a higher natural rate of unemployement - meaning it is more relevant to compare time-series rathar than cross-sectional data.
But you are right - Our economy is not roaring, and we don't seem to making a big deal of it
